by layla inhi, i'm a little bit nervous posting something in here.....this is the firts time.....i was just wondering what "good" or "bad" things you have to say about jw.

One question that would make you think....
by Dawn inno jw's have been to my door for years because they all know where i live - my mom drives by with her "car group" and points out our house, even stops to use the potty or get a pop.
silly - i know, but mom doesn't seem to care about the shunning thing (thank goodness).. anyways - hubby and i have bought a new house and will be moving out of this congregation's area soon.
it's a brand new house in a new area so i'm sure it'll get worked fairly quickly (new blood on the block).

I think it would be difficult to raise any question or objection that would make a rank and file JW really think, without having an off pat WT answer, or the blinkers come up.
One thing that niggled in the back of my mind when I was an active dub was that we were not to look at opposing arguments. I could not see what the problem would be if we really did have the absolute irrefutable TRUTH. I remember speaking to people who knew this, and would say that they would read the literature that I was offering if I would read and consider theirs. Won't happen.
There will always be people who want to be JWs, want to carry on as they are, don't want to consider any contrary evidence. The key is finding something that will touch the heart or mind of an honest, thinking JW.

Let me introduce myself...
by aarque ini've done a lot of lurking and have put in my two cents a few times on this board, but just realized i've never introduced myself here.. i'm one of five who was raised as jws.
my mom began studying not too long after she married; dad was totally against it.
coming from a divided household, we were treated as an nonentity in the congregation.

Wow! Great thread!
Definately agree with the chorus of "Killing in the name of": ,"&*^K You, I wont do what you told me". I watch kids moshing to that chorus and I stand on the side and think "You really have no idea what that really means, but I do".
Alanis Morrisette, "Forgiven" - the whole song is so apt:
You know how us
CatholicJW girls can be
We make up for so much time a little too late
I never forgot it, confusing as it was
No fun with no guilt feelings
The sinners, the saviors, the loverlesspriestselders
I'll see you next Sunday
We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did
I sang Alleluia in the choir
I confessed my darkest deeds to an envious man
My brothers they never went blind for what they did
But I may as well have In the name of the Father, the Skeptic and the Son
I had one more stupid question
We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did
What I learned I rejected but I believe again
I will suffer the consequence of this inquisition
If I jump in this fountain, will I be forgiven
We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did
We all had delusions in our head
We all had our minds made up for us
We had to believe in something
So we didAnd now I love "You'll See" by Madonna. The lyrics reflect how I feel about the whold thing now, especially how we are supposed to fall apart without Mother.
You think that I can't live without your love
You'll see,
You think I can't go on another day.
You think I have nothing
Without you by my side,
You'll seeSomehow, some way
You think that I can never laugh again
You'll see,
You think that you destroyed my faith in love.
You think after all you've done
I'll never find my way back home,
You'll see
Somehow, someday
[Chorus:]
All by myself
I don't need anyone at all
I know I'll survive
I know I'll stay alive,
All on my own
I don't need anyone this time
It will be mine
No one can take it from me
You'll see
You think that you are strong, but you are weak
You'll see,
It takes more strength to cry, admit defeat.
I have truth on my side,
You only have deceit
You'll see, somehow, someday[Chorus2:]
All by myself
I don't need anyone at all
I know I'll survive
I know I'll stay alive,
I'll stand on my own
I won't need anyone this time
It will be mine
No one can take it from me
You'll see -

Simple math question for dum dums
by JH inif you travel a distance of 100 miles .
and the first half of the trip you go at 100 mph.
and the second half of the trip you go at 50 mph.

I did it like this:
1 x 1, 2 x 50p, 2 x 20p, 1 x 10p, 1 x 5p, 2 x 2p, 241 x 1p
There must be a lot of ways of solving this one.

bugger.
Edited to add. I was solving this by using simultaneous equations, for no possible reason I was using total 40 coins. My stupid error was pointed out, so I set out to solve it for 50 coins. I have been trying to do this using pennies, nickels and dimes. Can't be done (other than the original solution). Forget you also have quarters. Grrrrrrrr.
I might try to find all the possible Sterling solutions. We have 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and 1 coins.
So how many ways can you break a 5 note into 250 coins?

Is YOUR Conscience A Reliable Guide For Living?
by Englishman inno, its is most certainly not a reliable guide!.
well, according to the wtbts it's not, anyway.. back in my witnessy days, the public talk entitled: "is your conscience a reliable guide for living?
" majored on man's totally inability to do anything remotely good of his own accord.

Funny isn't it? A person who is receptive to the JW message is said to be so because they have the right heart condition.
And yet, when you are a fully fledged baptised witness, your heart is treacherous, not to be trusted.
