The new map is lovely. I am in Cheshire, not Greater Manchester. Can you move me when you next do an update? Thanks!

UK & IRELAND MAP
by ballistic ini had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).
(and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).
anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.

Change of "look" after leaving the organization
by JH ini was wondering how many men here let their beard grow, when they decided to quit the organization.
since having a beard in the jw's is not permitted, it would seem appropriate to let one's beard grow just to show that we don't go by their rules anymore.
maybe for others it was growing a mustache or maybe shaving their head.. did you change your "look" right after leaving the organization?.

I had my hair cut really short. It didn't suit me, so sadly my hair now conforms to dub standards. I also had my nose pierced. That does suit me, so I have kept it.
I haven't grown a moustache yet, but I probably will later in life.

This is my result, some of it is remarkably accurate. I'll let you guess which bits..........
Your Existing Situation
- Working to improve her image in the eyes of others so as to obtain their compliance and agreement with her needs and wishes.
Your Stress Sources
- Wishes to be independent, unhampered, and free from any limitation or restriction, other than those which she imposes of herself or by her own choice and decision.
Your Restrained Characteristics
- Willing to participate and to allow herself to become involved, but tries to fend off conflict and disturbance in order to reduce tension.
Able to achieve satisfaction through sexual activity but is inclined to be emotionally withdrawn, which prevents her from becoming deeply involved.
Your Desired Objective
- Her need to feel more causative and to have a wider sphere of influence makes her restless and she is driven by her desires and hopes. May try to spread her activities over too wide a field.
Your Actual Problem
- Feels restricted and prevented from progressing; seeking a solution which will remove these limitations.

Do family/relatives still hound you about going back? what do they/you say?
by run dont walk inno lie 10 years after i left, my family still thinks i'm coming back one day, get a grip, the last conversation i had, i kinda lost it a bit with my mom, and more or less said why would i go back, when russell/rutherford made everything up as they went along.
well that was a conversation stopper, and my brother/sister called alittle while back, i mentioned the un thing, child abuse scandals, and a few other things, i am not kidding, they pretended that they new nothing and that these things probaly never happened, just the media making up stories, how do you reason with that ???
i said :" well don't take their word for it, investigate yourself so you know, and read the entire watchtower history 1879-2003, read it yourself, if you are not willing to then shut up !

Out of my small extended family, only my parents and I were JWs, so there is no pressure from aunts, uncles and so on.
I have been out for 9 years now, and the pressure has gradually diminished. Now I am remarried, my parents are aware how their behaviour will reflect on the organisation to my in-laws.
The last time I was given a little prod was after they attended the JW funeral of a family friend in the area where we lived when I was a little girl. It went like this -
Mum: Lots of people were asking how you are. They'd love to see you again.
Me:
Mum: I wish you'd sort yourself out - so many people miss you.
Me:
Mum: You wouldn't have to go back into it full on......
Me:
Mum: Well I won't go on at you about it......(changed subject)
I thought about the conversation afterwards. First conclusion -SORT MYSELF OUT????? Well, its terrible living in a lovely area in a nice home, having a good job and being married to a wonderful man, YES, I so need to sort myself out!
Second conclusion - What was missing from the dialogue? World events, Jehovah loves me, near the end, bad people don't mean its not the truth, blah, blah. Not a mention. That was new. Interesting. Come back so we don't have to shun you, you don't really need to do much, just get your name tag changed. Hmmmmm.

Need some legal advice(UK)
by Gadget inmy brother is having some problems with a violent ex-boyfriend, which resulted in him getting beaten up last weekend.
he's been to the police about it, and they adviced him to take out a restraining order, which would mean his ex would be arrested if he came within 200 yards of him, but this would cost 1500 pounds to get a solicitor to arrange this.
he cannot afford this, and is not eligable for legal aid.

Maybe the Citizens Advice Bureau could help your brother -

Female sexuality and the WBTS
by dmouse inthis is my last post for a couple of weeks as i'm going on holiday (st ives).
my apologies to those waiting for august's km, it's going to be a bit late!.
anyhow... i was enjoying amazing's recent thread where he picks apart the society's view on masturbation and, like him, realized that female sexuality is seldom discussed.

The article is ridiculous - it is also over 40 years old. How does it compare to contemporary (1961)attitudes to women's sexuality? Of course, I understand that the WT never retracts these charming ideas.

Many Happy Returns, OCW!!
I have felt comfortable with celebrating my birthday from the first year I left. This year my husband took me to the Portugese restaurant in our village and we had lobster for the first time. Yum! And at the weekend we went camping at my favorite place, walked in the hills and I got sunburnt (stooopid).
When I turned thirty we had a party at home with lots of spicy tapas and mojitos and margueritas and anything you can stick in a liquidiser with alcohol.
