i worked out my carbon footprint using this article:.
http://environment.guardian.co.uk/ethicalliving/story/0,,1997277,00.html.
this does require a calculator and a pen and paper to complete - it isn't a tick box quiz, but i think the results are worth looking into.. according to my calculations, i am just under the average for britain.

According to my calculations, I am just under the average for Britain. My car travel made up a big chunk of my nearly 9mt. I drive a diesel, and the longest single trip I make is to Aberdeen (about 350 miles).
Thinking about my electricity usage reminded me that as we have decorated and put new light fittings in, we have managed to have different bulbs in nearly every room in the house - and none of them are energy saving bulbs. I can't decide whether it is more environmentally friendly (and economical) to replace my lightfittings or not. Carry on using high energy bulbs, or get new fittings using raw materials and manufacturing energy?

i'm studying environmental science right now and our course has been on pollution/extinction and things that we as humans are doing to our earth.
i thought this article was interesting...scarey...but interesting.
because of pollution, we are causing some life forms to actually change what they were meant to be.
Lt.Cmd Lore, I can't believe you don't know what paint is. Or oestrogen, for that matter.
I'll try again.
This sounds like the effect of chemicals which interfere with hormone functions. In the paint industry, there is a widespread move to eliminate the use of specific chemicals which are used to help the colours mix into the paint and make sure the paint stays mixed together, because they degrade to substances which mimic oestrogen.
Sometimes I see terms that I don't understand. I "google" them.

This sounds like the effect of endocrine disruptors. In my industry (paint and coatings) there is a widespread move to eliminate alkyphenyl ethoxylates (which are used as pigment dispersants) because they degrade to substances which can mimic oestrogen.
jeremy vine show at bbc radio 2 is discussing canada sextuplets and jw's and blood today.
show starts midday uk time
i never thought it would happen for me, but tomorrow is my wedding day, and we've put together a cd of music .
we both love, and which has meaning for us, to be played at the wedding and reception.
i've been searching youtube.
Congratulations Trev and Linda!
I know it's corny, but I love it. Mr Fe2O3 and I had this song to walk out to after the ceremony when we got married.

i have been following the story on the duggar family ever since i saw it when they were having their 15th child.
we get it on pay tv here.
anyone else as interested as i am?.
The Daily Mail reported yesterday on a large British family:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=437656&in_page_id=1770
"After having nine children in as many years, you might think Rayna and Malcolm Warriner's brood is complete.
But, with one seat spare in the family minibus, the couple feel they still have a gap to fill."
I wouldn't put myself and lots of other posters in any of those categories.
Edited to add:
I don't consider my contribution or most of the debate "JW bashing" (whatever that means).

I agonised about whether I could cop it as a parent before I had one child. Now I am agonising over how we would give enough care and attention to both if we have another child.
I am obviously completely overestimating what is involved in raising a child.
and it is all vicarious, but boo hoo.. i had a phone call first thing this morning from a good friend i used to work with, to tell me that one of our old colleagues had collapsed and died at work yesterday.
it wasn't someone i was close to, he was a quiet bloke, but nice, with a great dry humour.
and he was only in his forties.. so i ring another lady we used to work with to let her know the sad news, and she tells me her husband has pancreatic cancer and secondary liver cancer.
Thanks for all your replies. I feel better today.
jaguarbass, thanks for those comforting thoughts. I will look forward to that, although it already feels like they are dropping like flies.
