it was in the 80's i think but they began stressing the urgency of baptism for anyone who was "at an age of understanding".
i heard several assembly talks that said kids under ten could be baptized if they qualified.. this sticks in my mind because my kids were 12 or so and not qualified in my view.
my ex wife pushed my daughter into baptism at 12, she is now 32, not a witness and we both laugh about it.. www.isnrblog.com.
I think the push is still happening.
Fortunately I didn't take the dunk until I was 20 years old. My father didn't even pressure me to, never did. He actually asked me a few times on the way to the assembly that day if I was really sure I wanted to go through with it.
for me it was the fact that god is allowing all these innocent people to get killed to prove a point ,i mean it was a big bet he had with satan.. i explained it to my wife this way if i had our children killed in the most horriable way just to show they couldn't live without me how does that make me look?.
I always found it a bit challenging to accept the explanations given in the "Daniel's Prophecy", and Revelation book, such as the prophecies that supposedly found fullfillment with the JW organization.
they said it wouldn't happen.. as a life long giants fan, i am over the moon!.

we got woke up this morning (again) by a call from one of the elders or his ms assistant, looking for "our time report" for this past month.
i've been out for over two years (faded), my wife and the kids haven't attended hardly any meetings since the memorial... talk about clueless.
no "shepherding calls" on her (thank goodness!
I got the call by my BS overseer/secretary for the first 3-4 months after I quit the meetings and field service.
i'm a baptized member considered ''inactive.
'' i don't hand in ''service reports'',attend maybe 3 meetings a month,ain't signed up for the ministry school and will never attend any convention or the ''book study.

i took a ruby red grapefruit just now and cut it in half and then fourthed the half.
this started me thinking.

I love making a nice fruit salad with apples, strawberries, grapes, raspberries, kiwi, and blueberries. I top a bowl of it with yogurt, a little kashi go lean crunch cereal, and lite whipped topping.
i saw some mention of this in another post, but i wasn't sure if there was a topic about it.
being raised in the "truth" its always pointed out that even people who haven't been to meetings in years still come to the memorial.
ive noticed that a lot of time that is actually the case.
I'd say it's usually because of pressure from their family to go since it's said to be the most important meeting of the year.
well over 30 years ago on a lovely spring morning, my mother held me for the first time and looked onto my little pink face and said, my little baby is going to make a difference.
i heard her recount this story over and over throughout my life.
i never really understood what my purpose could be.
