I guess you've already chosen the DA letter route - good on you! At least you'll be able to make your stand known as to WHY. It might not matter much to them - but it does to you. So GOOD!

i just got done with another visit at my home with two elders and even though i tried to say very little they took anything they could as a disagreement with them as enough to say they may call a jc meeting after they talk to the rest of the elder body.
so since they are planning on dfing me any way, i'm wondering if i should just write a letter or go through with their meeting?.

i, this past week, had a delicious blueberry pie along with french vanilla ice cream!
yum!!!!.
i love whoopie pies too.. i hardly ate anything yesterday and now i'm thinking about goodies..
Cheesecake. It's what I imagine manna tasted like. But I don't think I'd EVER get tired of it, breakfast, lunch and dinner, every day. :)-

how is it that in a world that is so technological, scientific, fact-based, evidence-based, and so on, that many people are superstitious - even more so, the superstitions of ancient cultures?.
doug.
Like throwing spilt salt over your shoulder, or not walking under a ladder, or not opening an umbrella inside the house, or believing you'll have 7 yrs. bad luck if you break a mirror, or knocking on wood?
I wouldn't know. I've never believed in all that stuff. My ex believed if you watch a person drive away from you until they're completely out of sight that it's bad luck on the driver. I tried that one out but it didn't work - he came back every time. ;)

the lead elder co of my hall said he was going to push for a jc meeting.
i could tell all along all hes interested in is protecting his god the org.. so i'm 90% sure now of going on the offesive and first having a family meeting telling them i'm offically quitting and how its going to play out and how i'll will be shunned even though i have commited no sin.
i also may explain a little of why and how i came to this decision with out bashing the org to much out of respect for my wife.
That's a fine letter, CG - straight to the point of what CHRISTian really means! I'm sure there are LOTS of other points you'd like to make, but keeping it short 'n' sweet almost guarantees it'll be read to the end... maybe planting a little seed. (:
I didn't see any errors. Ya done good. I hope your wife takes it well - I hope she understands - I hope she gets out of that cult right along with you!

if you allow your child to have a part in the nativity play, it's apostacy.
even if the child just stands there, dressed as a an animal.
with no lines.. even if you've been inactive for several months.. talk about extremes and emotional blackmail!.
Yes, the wt absoutely HATES Jesus, so taking part in a nativity scene would be "celebrating" the most horrendous celebration of all - Jesus' birthday.
It's all about appearances, as Terry's tale demonstrates so well. Sorry you all had to go through crap like that. ):

CrazyGuy - Ignore them - they want you to fear them. Show NO fear! Their chains are broken and they no longer have you tethered to their wacky theology. I SO HOPE you're able to reason with your wife - she should know you're not the demon they're trying to make you seem like.
stillin - those are the lyrics from The James Gang's(Joe Walsh) song "Walk Away". I had that album in the early 70's. :)
Thanks for that, BoC - I was hummin' along. ;)

excellent material can be found within the reasoning book, page 328, para.2, 3. occasionally, i see posters make presumptuous comments like, "all you need is the bible", or, "i'm born-again, so there's no need for spiritual assistance from another christian", or,"i'm saved", or my favorite, "jesus talks to me directly.
" on one hand, i can't be overly critical of such ones because they do attempt to read and understand the bible on their own.
(acts 17:11) not to mention they're generally peaceable folks, just self-misguided when erroneously believing that they can go it alone.
To what "truth" did Phillip bring the Ethiopian "up to speed"?
How long did Phillip "conduct a study" with the Ethiopian before he was baptized?
To what congregation of like-believers did the Ethiopian go after his conversion?
No, this is not a good example of what Jehovah's Witnesses are doing today. They are not witnesses of Jesus, as Phillip was, nor do they teach what he did - Acts 8: 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

the freedom from religion foundation and its co-presidents annie laurie gaylor and dan barker have won a significant ruling with far-reaching ramifications declaring unconstitutional the 1954 parish exemption uniquely benefiting ministers of the gospel.
...... how long until somebody says "persecution"?.
.
Hey, I LIKE it! My in-laws' church has a really nice house for the parsonage. Rent/mortgage, insurance, home maintenance and repair costs all come from the parishners' plate contributions. (do they all agree with it - did they all vote or something? I doubt it - probably okay'd by the church council)
Thing that gets me is that the 'pastor' and his wife are fairly young, but the old ladies of the church actually clean their rent-free house for them! On a weekly basis if I'm not mistaken. The cleaning ladies probably feel good about doing it, but sincerely, does that sound right? Who's 'serving' whom?
Yes, the false cries of 'persecution' will arise. They should read Fox's Book of Martyrs for some perspective. They should also revisit: "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's".

i think there are many that still want to believe in a god but just aren't sure.. personally, do you believe in a god?.
are you a "spiritual" person?.
I believe. I'm sure. :))
what is it about this show that compells you to tune in?
is it the cool choppers?
lol, no - really, i want to know.. a friend of my hubby's, when he learned we like the walking dead, said, "if you like that show, you'll love sons of anarchy.".
Thanks for your reply, 3rdgen!
Yes, I understand how you can relate to it, 3rdgen. And you live in California, so that makes it more interesting to you. I've never known anyone like any of the SoA characters and live a simple, mid-western country life and find it difficult to relate to any of their situations.
Why I like WD... well, the name of it drew me in the first place because that's what we've felt like being 'the shunned', wt-style. I've always liked horror, scary-themed books and movies. (when I bacame a jw I sold/gave away my Stephen King book collection which took years to accumulate :( )
I never liked zombie thrillers, though. The first time I tried to watch 'Night of the Living Dead' some decades ago, I couldn't watch it all - was alone and just got too creeped-out. I'd seen the WD actors on some talk show and was initially interested, but we only have antenna tv, no cable or dish to view AMC. So we rented the 2 available seasons of WD at the video store and watched them in 2 long weekends - hooked and hooked!
The thing I like about it is... killing the monsters, the threat. And it's survival - I like how the writers give the characters good decisions in their situations, or bad - and you see how it plays out. Also, unlike zombies of past movies - WD zombies shuffle/drag themselves along - they don't RUN!
And it's not REAL - I like it that it's imaginary. Real-life dramas are sometimes too much for me... I have too many anxieties I guess. 0.o
Thanks for the insight :))
