Americans seems to be very fearful and paranoid.
It comes across in the reasoning for having a gun, foreign policy opinion, even how cars are designed (doors need to auto-lock).
I think this constant drip-feed of fear coupled with a selfish / entitlement attitude in society contributes to the problem.
You got that right. Some of these people around here are nuts. They worry about one part per trillion of pesticide on an apple, some bogeyman out to get them around every corner, and need to have a warning label telling about every possible danger. The fear is way out of proportion to actual risk. These fsckers have even gotten lawn darts banned! A lot of this is driven by that other pox on America, the lawyers, who are eager to sue the wealth away from anyone remotely connected to some muttonhead screwing something up.
And then there are the religious nutters....

My MIL used to beat her sons every so often for no reason at all, she called it "General Principle" and she explained it to me as this:
they got whoopin's on GP whether I knew they did something wrong or not. It is to cover the wrong doing I don't know about.
The result? My husband hates his own mother. I think she did it to instill fear and she liked doing it because she would brag about it years later.
Using fear as a sole course of control can backfire.
Fascinating concept. I wonder if she really believed it and rewarded them every so often for doing something right, to cover the good works she didn't know about. If so, it would be consistent and show that she may have really believed that principle. If she didn't, then she is likely just a mean old hateful bitch.

You have your work cut out for you, but it can be done.
It is a lot of fun, because they have a rigid indoctrination about what the Bible is about that is at such great variance with what is written that when confronted with the actual text they will start spewing all sorts of nonsensical stuff, much of it outright funny.
It is best if you don't have any doctrine that you need the Bible to prove, but are just willing to let it say what it will say.
One thing that is helpful is to avoid the proof text trap. Verses were not written in isolation, but as part of a narrative, so you only get the meaning if you read a whole chapter or more. So do that. Any verse given to you should be part of an entire chapter, This will at least diffuse the point the JW was trying to make, and will often refute the point because they carefully excise the verse they want to prove something even if that is not what it really means.
One technique is to parse your chapter and find out who is present, what are they doing and who is speaking. Graph it out. I did, and my JW saw that and often realized the Watchtower position was unworkable. Once that happens, let it go. Move on and don't make a fuss about it. They will stew on it, and you don't need to prove anything. Just say something noncommital, like "That's interesting." It's not about winning. If their mind gets guarded or closed up, you win nothing.
If your JW insists on flipping you into the "What Does the Bible Really Teach" book, then get that copy of "Response to What Does the Bible Really Teach" by Wilbur Lingle. It will help you a lot. You can let a lot of things slide by, pick and choose where you want to call out the Watchtower nonsense.

The woman is still in the Jehovah's Witnesses and therefore imposes anonymous for fear of being ostracized.
The charge against her was immoral. She had experimented sexually with her boyfriend, and had even warned the leaders of the church as a result of shame.
-I met alone in church premises, "Kingdom Hall". I met three men between 50 and 60 years. All three were friends of the family, and one of them was one I often met privately.
In a semicircle around her should they get to the bottom of what happened between the 15-year-old girl and her boyfriend.
The sexual acts had to be described in detail.
The questions included: "Was there penetration?", "Had they had anal sex?"

She often had to meet the three men during a meeting in the church.- Why would they have such detailed descriptions?
- They wanted to document how sinful I was and how much I regretted. They could have been my ancestors all three. I spent several years trying to rewrite the questioning, said the woman.
She promised the men not to "commit more immoral."
- I always felt lots of shame, that I would return to the church to escape the shame.
The woman says that the church learned about adultery and immorality, and that sex was not a topic.
- I realized only after many years how humiliating it was to sit there and answer these questions.

It does not specify from what age children should read the book, except that it will happen from one is "very small." But the introduction emphasized biblical figure Samuel as a cream example, since he began to serve Jehovah the tabernacle at the age of four or five years.
News flash! There is no minimum age for children to be exposed to Watchtower propaganda, including explicit sexual material. The idea of "age appropriate" is not in the Watchtower lexicon.

The article is a train wreck.
The Bible does not reveal exactly when it started. It was some time after the creation
of Adam’s wife, Eve, about 6,000 years ago.
The Bible used to reveal this, back before 1975, because the Watchtower told us so. Then it magically changed one day and stopped revealing it.
Ahead of us lies the Thousand Year Reign of Jesus Christ, which will ensure the fulfillment of God’s purpose
in creating the earth to be an everlasting paradise filled with perfect mankind. (Gen. 1:27, 28; Rev. 20:6)
Now it is the Nine Hundred Year Reign of Jesus Christ ahead of us, since it allegedly started in 1914.
Can you be sure that you will have such a hap-py future? Indeed you can!
I have never had a JW ever tell me they were sure they would have that future, but always would qualify it by saying they hope they would if they endure to the end, or that they have a PROSPECT of being in paradise.
Perfect creatures who love God and imitate him do not need to make an oath; they always tell
the truth and have complete trust in one another. But things changed with
the introduction of human sin and im-perfection.
This statement lacks logical consistency. The perfect creatures are supposed to be Adam and Eve. But notice how the writing changes to passive voice when referring to "the introduction of human sin and imperfection". This is a sly way to get you to avoid the obvious question, which is how a perfect creature could introduce imperfection. This is another Watchtower fiction.
Because of rejecting Jesus Christ, the nation of Israel finally lost their fa-vored status with God along with the
prospect of ever becoming “a king-dom of priests.” As Jesus told the Jewish leaders: “The kingdom of God will
be taken from you...
Another dose of the usual Watchtower antisemitism.
Unlike natural Israel, God’s new spiritual nation has kept on bearing

This contradicts the story that is currently toggled into place (there has always been a slave/the slave had fallen into captivity and needed restoration) since the slave was only appointed in 1919. Of course, next month this could be old light and this passage would be okay.
This spiritual food is horribly rancid.
If I ever find a hard copy of this, I will have to whip out my pen and mark it up.
