All 900-plus episodes of “California’s Gold” are now available online, for free public viewing, at www.HuellHowserArchive.com, through the dedicated work of our own Panther Productions. Huell was very gratified to see that happen.
YES!! (Link opens in new tab)
This is great, now those of you who never got the chance to see his stuff can easily obtain it. I can go back and watch a lot of stuff I missed. This is awesome. All of the accomplishments of the JW governing body put together over the last 20 years could not even come close to a tenth of what Huell did, so remember that next time you see them boasting about how wonderful they are.
I like walking up to people with a fake mic and pretend interviewing them Huell style, but believe me it is playful recognition of how he did things. I can not watch him without getting a big smile and laughter. Now, another Huell pic for ya.

Even for those who have not seen any of his work, it is all available and documented. He left behind his body of work to Chapman University. I don't know if they will monetize it, or make it freely available, but if you ever are curious about California beyond the Hollywood fakery then Huell's travels are a great place to start.
piers morgan decided to advocate gun control after sandy hook.
that caused this radio host, alex jones, who has millions of listeners to create a petition to have piers deported.
piers invited alex on his show to have a civil debate about guns.
Looks like Alex needs to sack his PR consultant, and go find out the meaning of the word "interview!"
In a world where there is rational discussion that would be proper.
These side shows are all entertainment, like throwing red meat to beasts and watching them shred it. Alex is an entertainer, who plays to those who enjoy the spectacle of the angry guy waving his arms and doing a belligerant rant with a bullhorn.
I would rather see more of this Alex Jones.

I am very put off by crazy ranting on any side of a matter. It can be entertaining, if you like that sort of stuff, but I think more clearly when examining rational hard numbers of things. It is much easier to watch someone like this guy and leave the rantfest for the people who like Springer and others.
i mean no disrespect to sd-7 or his fine thread on which this picture has already featured, but i think it is just so ridiculous that it deserves a thread all of its own.. lurkers and apologists, this is how your precious organization views itself.... behold the madness.... .

cedars.
It brings to mind things like a second beast making an image of the first beast and causing people to worship the image.

kurtbethel,
No Way x2
We had a cabin in Gurenville...(i always called it Gureniville )
Spent many mornings fishing on the Russian River, mostly catching Carp. Afternoons swimming.
Do you remember the go-cart tract? The old movie house ? The Indian Jewelry Shop. The owner was a family friend.
Small world. I would love to see your photos.
Well...I lived there from 1960-1966, and went back to visit many times since then. There wasn't a go cart track then. There was the River theater, King's Sporting goods, and a slot car track that ate up my older brothers' spare cash, and that tiny substantial looking bank on the corner. We lived down the road in Guernewood Park, on Guernewood Lane. There was a miniature golf place there way back when, and a bowling alley. Also, there was a quicksilver (mercury) mine north of town. Plus, it floods there big time. Last time I was there was in 2006.

Kurtbethel..
Mentioning Bodega Bay makes me want to cry. Spent many a summers there, Jenner and Gurenville too.
No way! I was born in Sebastopol, and went to kindergarten at Guerneville elementary school. Then there was Korbel, Armstrong redwoods park, and Johnson's beach on the Russian river. Hmmm....I am really going to have to put up galleries of my photos of these places.

I guess people from California are more likely to have heard of him since he was California TV Personality.
Well, yes. It's in the thread title.
Plan a Road Trip in Huell's honor. In southern California there are great parts of Route 66, Hwy 101 and Old Hwy 395.
You bet! I am about a quarter mile from the really old 395, where it originally snaked from Escondido to Vista and then snaked through Bonsall and then east to the current route. I have been on the entire length of 395, even the parts where it veers into Nevada through Carson City and Reno, then on up into Susanville and on to Alturas. Huell knew the California that I know, like Julian, Encinitas and Bodega Bay. I would love to have his job, going about with the camera and poking around all these places, but I don't have his charm or presence that made his documentaries special.

Best episode I ever saw was Huell interviewing a toothless resident of El Centro (I think) about the rocks out in front of his trailer. He picks up a grey rock and says “What kind of rock would you say this is?” “Gravel.” That’s A-MAY-Zing” Yep. That was Huell. I think he may have been the only guy who could pull it off that way without sounding hokey. I think he was able to channel some genuine amazement about nearly anything ordinary.
