Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS

i wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.

all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.

the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

Those stories scared the hell out of me and I was an adult. Add that to the demon stories and it's no wonder I've got an alcoholic(recovering - thank the flying spaghetti monster)child. I would give anything to have not subjected my children to that horrible upbringing.

terry's recent thread about god's love made me start wondering the above question.

normally a ransom is done as a swap, the payment is made on exchange.

2000 years ago jesus made payment by dieing.

I'd say Jesus only covered the principal and the interest is still due. Can you believe that we believed all that hogwash? Hell - I even thought it made perfect sense.

i also bought a ton of other junk i could've lived without (food, and such).

Hey Dave - yeah BB, Roy and Mincan picked that up in a drive-thru when they came for Christmas. They had never been through a drive -thru before so they were excited anyway - when they found the beer they thought it was some kind of sign or something. LOL

put 2 cards in your pocket you have pre-written....one says...."new light"....the other says ..."where else can we go?

".......approach a jw...... put them on the spot with a few pointed questions......when they give their usual responses....i.e "new light" and "show me something better and i'll go there"....pull out the appropriate cards and they will think you are a prophet....or even better.....realise they are in a cult spouting programmed responses.....he he....ninja

i came across the following as a topic at another discussion board i read.

it doesn't really have anything to do with jehovah's witnesses, but i did extract this jw comparison from it: .

beyond the beauty of humble, caring, good parenting, it struck me that this is what real repentance is all about; it isn't confessing some "sin" (that probably doesn't affect anyone else all that negatively anyway) like smoking or masturbating or anything else for that matter, to elders or a congregation or even a god.

It was touching, very much so. We have so much power over our children. What we say can cause long lasting harm to their self-esteem, their egos and their world view. I shudder to think of the harm I've done asking this question of my children: "Who do you think you just made happy? Jehovah or Satan?"

You can never take back words that damage or the tone they were spoken in.

mine was men at work's "business as usual".

on vinyl.

and my dad read all the lyrics on the sleeve to make sure it wasn't too evil.

Mine was also the Beatles on vinyl, I assume it was the one mentioned. I was in the first grade and begged for it. I had been watching their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show since kindergarten. I knew the words to every song. It seems like the poster of them I had on my bedroom door came in one of the albums but I can't remember.
