why I like this site
by nancy drew ini like this site (aside from the fact that we have the jw experience in common) because i have come to realize that all of you are very creative, interesting & courageous.
it takes a special person to exit the jw's.
we all of course are also very different & thats good because we can learn from each other.

There are quite a few ex-JW sites in Spanish.

I hate to speak poorly about anyone's mother, but from what you've shared yours sounds self centered, manipulative and concerned more with appearences than with doing the right thing. A very dangerous combination a traits. You have my sympathies.

Eternal life for flesh and blood creatures
by donny ini was explaining the basic teachings to a non-witness coworker the other day and we began talking about the incident in the garden of eden.
i told him that according to the society, if adam and eve had not sinned, the world today would be full of perfect human beings who never die.. he then asked "what about the animal kingdom?
would they be mortal and grow old and die and if so, how would god explain that to humans?".

According to JW teaching, animals are lesser creatures and die, where humans were not meant to. They also teach that animals are not subject to Adamic sin, which means that the animal kingdom is "perfect". Other than the negative effects the environment and humans have had on animals, they are pretty much just how they were "created" to be.
This was always my argument when it came to animals in the New System no longer eating flesh. If they are "perfect" as they are now, with many of them being predators. why would they need to be changed?

Things in the past that show you that your doubts started earlier than you thought
by sabastious ini was just talking to my wife this morning about underlining or highlighting the wt paragraphs.. when i was 13 years old i would fight with my dad because i refused to highlight the answers.. the reason was because i wanted my comment to be genuine.
i felt that highlighting the "answer" made me lean on just using that as a crutch and not truly putting it in my own words.. i still hold that argument now, and i am 26. the only reason you would ever have to highlight something in a study book would be if you needed to remember it, maybe it is fairly complicated or subtle information that could be easily forgotten.. so many times in the wt the "question" has the same phrase that's in the paragraph!
it's literally like playing connect the dots.. so what i would do is not highlight during the family study.

I remember being around 5 or 6 and asking mom if in Paradise we could fall off a cliff and survive. She said"perfect people don't fall off cliffs". This made no sense to me at all...
For many years I had an issue with predator type animals not eating other animals in the New System...
The college issue always bugged me...

The old big orange "Paradise" book
by aquagirl inanyone remember that?
i learned to read on that book.there were some very disturbing images, like the earth opening up and people falling into it.like upside down ladies and hippies.id love to get a hold of one and peruse it with a friend and some herbal medicine.maybe there is one in the attic?anyway, that and the image of the snake talking to the beautiful, bare shouldered eve,who was holding an apple, made a big impression on me.any else have any faves from that book?is it still being used?.
