What is the point of praying?
by hoggieman inhi, i dont post here too often, but i was reading the other post about why bad things happen, and i am curious for everyones thoughts on this: i have recently left about 9 months ago.
at first i thought i was closer to god and was reading the bible more than ever.... praying asking for help, clarity, etc.....but after a while i started to ask myself why would god answer my messily little prayers when hundreds of thousands were dieing in haiti?
the witness mindset that i remember was not to pray for things to happen, but for strength for yourself to do something.

Are more men leaving the WT than women???
by changeling intalking to a couple fellow posters the other day i made the observation that there seem to be more men on this board, and, in particular, more married men whose wives are still "in".
i could be wrong about this, but that's how it seems to me.... so, provided my observation is true, why do ya'll think that is?
why are men waking up while the women lag behind?

steve2: thanks for the mathematical perspective! :)
Numbers aside, I tend to agree with flipper. Women seem to have more of an attachement to the social/familial side of the WT, even when they have the green light from their husbands.

You ask, given your upbringing, "why shoudn't I be bitter"? I'll ask you this: why would you want to be? They took your childhood, as they did mine and that of many, many others; why should we give them any more of our precious lives?
While a fellow poster said that all emotions are valid, I also think that all emotions can be changed. We have the power to change them. Positive thoughts yield positive emotions and viceversa.
Leave the past behind and make today and each subsequent day a good day. You have the power! :)

So, provided my observation is true, why do ya'll think that is? Why are men waking up while the women lag behind? Could it be that women are socialized to be "followers"? Could it be the "submission" concept, highlighted in today's WT study? Are women in general, and JW women in particular, conditioned not to question, and to dismiss doubt in favor of not rocking the boat? Are men, even in this day and age, still more free than women to question, explore, and buck the system?

I love "Philadelphia Story" too, poppers, and its musical remake: "True Love" with Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 07-11-10 WT Study (WOMEN SUBMIT)
by blondie incomments you will not hear at the 07-11-10 wt study (may 15, 2010, pages 12-16)(women submit).
jehovah has established the orderly sequence that the apostle paul mentioned when he wrote that "the head of every man is the christ" and "the head of the christ is god.
what man is their head?.

Good point indeed, elderelite. It would seem the "headship arrangement" is the product of imperfection. Woman went from completing man to being dominated by him. I don't hear many JW men complaining about this arrangement...
