Thank you minimus. This is a pet pieve of mine.
To be a member of the UN you have to be a country.
i've read by some posters that the watchtower was a "member" of the un.
i believe this is incorrect.. i only make this comment because if we were to repeat the thought that the witnesses were members of the united nations, such misinformation could backfire on us..

the thing that sucks is that they are very much alive & we are literally less than five miles apart from each other everyday.
i had a long talk with one of my siblings today.
i've been getting a really weird vibe lately...today it was confirmed that i will be shunned from here on out from them.
I'm so sorry.
they have caught up with my sis, they want her to come to a meeting on monday.
she says she is going to just go and blag.
- even attend a few meetings if necessary.
I wouldn't go.
maybe arrogance is not the right word but i can find no other that describes what i see.
the idea expressed by some christians on this board is that somehow god specifically chose them.
i'll quote perry as an example as his post inspired this thread.
I hear you Gayle :)
Perry: I strive every day to be worthy of their love. I do NOT want them to love and respect me out of a sense of indebtedness for anything I may have done. Yeah, I gave them life, so what? If I were to condemn them to death or torture for not playing by my rules, I would not deserve their love.

I hope you are not implying Christians are unique in showing love and respect for others. Surely you realize people of all sorts have these qualities. And I'm certain you realize many a Christian is lacking in the love and respect department.

I'll bite...
Because I love them, I cannot for a second concieve of the possiblity of the existence of a "heavenly father", who demands to be worshiped, and if his demands aren't met, condemns his children to a fiery hell, death at Armageddon, or some other concoction any particular sect may preach.
I would like for my children to love me and respect me as I do them, but worship me? Look to me for every little decision they make? Never feel like adults because "it does not belong to them to direct their steps"? Please!
Man created God, not the other way around. And his creation was flawed.
hi all, its time i stopped lurking around here.
i've been posting at jws for just over a year, i know a few names here and it looks like there is lots of good banter going on.. i am a second generation, born-in who grew up in west-central scotland.
i pioneered in edinburgh and later married and settled in berwick just south of the border.
Welcome cofty!
What you said about the domino effect is so very true. The UN/ngo issue was the first domino for me. The rest fell quickly after that. Glad you've decided to post with us. :)

Yes, Perry. And grandchildren. I love them to pieces. Please don't use them to prove your point.

I've posted before how the expression: "I'm blessed" irks me. And yes, I would say it's arrogant to say God singled you out for "blessings" when millions are suffering.
Good things and bad things happen to everyone. What tips the scales in favor of some? Hard work, good genes, a healthy life style, common sense, intelligence, being born to an affluent family, being born in an affluent country, serendipity...
there is great debate regarding the matter of morals/ethics, and this particularly true whenever there is interaction between religiously driven portions of a culture, and those who maintain no religious opinion or even subscribe to atheism.
that cultural clash occurs often on this forum and others like it.. believers in god often attribute moral choices with godliness.
yet, among billions who have lived without any attachment to god in the particular sense that is often considered the driving influence [christianity, islam, judaism, or other organized religion] there have always been men and women whose 'moral character' is above reproach, even when measured with a black/white index of religious thought.. morality holds an arbitrary position among mankind.
I'm with Voidy :)
