  uni is not all its cracked up to be me dears, sorry

  i've noticed on this forum the big regret of alot of people seems to be that they didn't go to collage or university.. speaking as someone whose done the whole shebang, i can tell you that while yes i learnt alot at collage, uni taught me very little at all.

  in fact anything i learnt i taught myself by spending hours apon hours in the uni libary, which i could have done by just getting a day pass.. my degree has not helped me in my career, i already knew how to do what i do before going to uni.

  i run my own business now but i am sure that if i ever went for an employee postion my years of experiance would count far more than the bit of paper i have proving i have a degree.. getting a degree is pretty much down to knowing how to work the academic system.

  I'm sorry that this has been your experience, but I have to disagree.

  An education is not something to regret. You may never have a career in your chosen field but you acquired knowledge you wouldn't have otherwise.

  Your view of education seems very much like the WT's. "I'ts purpose is to find a job". Again, I disagree. Education is what rounds us out as humans. It opens our eyes. Expands our horizons.

  Sounds like you would have been better off going to a trade school. And that's ok, I'm not knocking trade school. But for many of us, education means much more than a means to a good paycheck. :)

  these people just love instiling guilt on these poor souls.. .

  at a recent circuit assembly a circuit overseer gave an awesome talk during the portion, 'giving attention to the needs of the circuit.

  and with such a high pricetag, please don't let it be empty.

  First I must say that this in one creative CO. He could probably sell ice to eskimos.

  Secondly, the "Needs of the Circuit" talk has long been looked at as "lower the boom" talk. It gives CO's licence to come down hard on the circuit and often for things they consider pet pieves. I've heard everything from: Don't have large extravagant weddings, to: sisters need to wear panty hose at meetings and field service, to: christians should not own the CD, "Fourplay" because it's a double entendre, in such talks.

  we doubted ourselfs and we doubted our beliefs.. but today we are our beliefs not some book not the elders nor the governong body.

  those were just symbals of our desire to be just.. today we ourselfs are the symbal of our own justice.

  today we believe in ourselfs and the justice of our heart.. we have become the victors.

  I don't think the question was odd. Many believers see agnostics and atheists as less than pond scum. Let them ask their questions, maybe they'll walk away enlightened. :)

  On the subject of gratitude: has anyone else found that JW's seldom sent "thank you" notes? This always irked me.

  I may not believe in God, but I've always been a big believer in thank you notes. :)

  the things i threw away...

  i got thinking today about all the thing i have thrown away while in the cult, the books the music and the films etc, i felt a real loss because alot of the stuff was thrown on the filmist of reasons ie it had a fairy or a witch in it etc... it was 2nd hand and maybe demonised etc.

  made me want to go out on a mad shopping spree and buy it all back!.

  If someone does something nice for me, I thank them.

  If good things happen in my life and someone is directly responsible, I make a point of thanking them.

  If good things happen in my life as a consequence of my hard work or wise choices, I use this as an incentive to keep up the good work.

  Conversely, if bad things happen in my life as a consequence of my negligence or poor choices, I use this as an impetus to change for the better.
