I am guessing that no other translation outside of the NWT uses the name Jehovah in Acts 15...the rest typically refer to Lord or God.

Latest Watchtower tells THE TRUTH!!
by BoogerMan inthe sheeple have always been indoctrinated to think of themselves as witnesses for jehovah.. but the 8m followers of the jw governing body are now told a biblical truth - that they are witnesses for jesus!.

UN and Governing Body and an accounting
by AnnaNana injoseph and mary were not in a spiritually adulterous relationship with the roman authorities, the "legs of iron".
joseph and mary were not perfect.
the governing body of the modern-day organization of jehovah's witnesses is not perfect.

AnnaNana...I think the GB "regretting" decisions is not one of feeling bad about incorrect interpretation or misleading people...they regret looking foolish and having to change course 180 degrees. That is not repentance, it is covering their butts with "new light"!

New and improved?
by tenyearsafter ini have a family member who had been df'ed for 15 years or so...recently they reinstated as a jw.
when i asked what motivated them to make that decision, the response was to be able to see family and old friends.
they insisted that things were different now.

Thanks for the insights everyone...as an FYI, I've been out about 30 years and have no interest in going back! I was just surprised that the emphasis that was put by my family member was "it's much easier now", not truth in teaching, etc.
Thanks to those who got the source of my screen name...Alvin Lee was the best!!

When I asked what motivated them to make that decision, the response was to be able to see family and old friends. They insisted that things were different now. The organization is all about love for one another, and that the judgmental elders have been removed or no longer in their positions. They claim that you can freely Zoom meetings and just do letter writing to get in your service time. Has anyone experienced that? I am skeptical that the leopard has changed his spots...

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game.....And, An Assembly
by titch infolks: well, here in the united states, tonight, july 19th, is when the mlb all-star game will be played.
and, it will be played at dodger stadium, in los angeles, california.
for those of you who don't know, the all-star game is a game in which members of the american league teams compete with members of the national league teams.

I was at Dodger Stadium...I worked security, so I was one of the "privileged" ones who could roam the grounds and flirt with the girls without being admonished by the attendants. It was fun, but also interminably long!

Should a Christian celebrate Christmas?
by Samsie inhello, i'm new here and have woken up to the real truth concerning the org.
i'm sort of fading away at the moment.... i need help with something, i used to as a child celebrate christmas and have always had amazing memories of it (my husband hasn't as he was born into the org) but i gave it up when i learnt the "truth".
my interest was only in pleasing god and still is.

GodBeliever...do you see Christmas differently than anniversaries, Thanksgiving, etc.? If so, why? Curious...

I suspect that everyone posting a reason NOT to celebrate Christmas celebrates wedding anniversaries. What is the difference? The Bible doesn't instruct us to celebrate anniversaries, exchange wedding rings or other "pagan" origin practices...but guess what, JW's are fine with that. The Bible doesn't tell us to not celebrate birthdays...WT instructs that because of two deaths occurring during a birthday celebration. The Bible makes no mention of Thanksgiving, nor Mother's or Father's Day (though it does tell us to honor our parents!). The hypocrisy of this is one of the things that got me started on the path to leaving the JW's. Use critical thinking and common sense...not leftover brainwashing from the very organization you are fleeing to make your decisions!

Nostromo...thank you so much! That worked like a charm. I have really missed some of the great Bethel stories and Quark cartoons that were on Freeminds. For anyone new here that hasn't seen those features, I strongly recommend you look at them and enjoy!

I especially enjoy Bethel Graffiti cartoons in Quark's caricatures...they are classic!!

Commander...if memory serves me, I believe Ray took a fall on some ice and hit his head. That led to brain hemorrhage complications and his passing a few days after the fall. Blondie should be able to confirm or correct my recollection.
