  FF...

  Started the study with Rock going D2D...this was 50 years ago, so starting studies was not that difficult then. I can't remember exactly what appealed to him, but the Truth book was quite general in its appeal...I recall he was looking to up his spiritual game.

  MJ's meeting attendance was irregular due to his schedule, but when he came, it was usually with family and he was very low key. We did see "interested ones" come to meetings to just catch a glimpse. The people in the congregation did tend to flock to him, and I always thought he was uncomfortable with that. After Thriller came out and he was "counseled", his meeting attendance dropped off. I left that congregation before he had disassociated himself.

  No one answered the door at the Tate house...just left a magazine "sample" at the door. I was vacation pioneering, so had to get those placements as well as the hours!! After the murders, I was sure the police would come knocking to see why I was at the house!! (not that they would know it was me!). It was just creepy to see the news of that massacre knowing I had been there the day before.

  FF...if that was for me, not much to expand on. Rock didn't progress, so I stopped the study. He never was inappropriate and actually seemed to be searching for something.

  Michael was very shy and if people recognized him we had to move to another street because news traveled fast..he seemed to be quite sincere in his efforts to get his "time" in. I give him props for trying...

  Not much to say about the Manson massacre house. The police never followed up, so I am assuming the magazine was trashed before the murders and wasn't noticed. The murders were the talk of the congregation as it was in our territory, and the card for that set of streets was still "checked out"!

  Naïve me had a study (Truth book) with Rock Hudson. He was actually a very nice guy and had not yet been outed.

  I also went door to door with Michael Jackson (in disguise)...a very strange experience!

  for the last 15 year's probably 25 person i knew or more were df, pimo, left by own will, inactive.

  As Slimboyfat notes, it's all a matter of interpretation and perception. For JW's, everything is black and white so if they aren't active, they aren't a JW...for other religions, such as Catholics, you are what you were born as, active or not.

  Slimboyfat...it is interesting you mention that "At the same time I think it’s only fair to acknowledge that JWs have done a much better job at retaining members than most other religious groups."

  I remember that the Pew Research Center did a survey on youth retention in religions, and JW's were near the bottom of the pile at about 35% of youth raised in the religion staying on as adults. That does not portend well for the future numbers given the small number of outside converts being added.

  First off, speaking as a retired police officer, once the handcuffs are on, the fight is over. First rule of arrest. What happened to George Floyd was unacceptable, but to turn the man into a saint and martyr is ridiculous. What has bothered me as much as the murder of this man is the absolute disregard for facts. The very people who love to trot out facts and statistics to support their agendas are completely disregarding the same for this so called epidemic of violence against people of color. Look at the facts as presented by the very liberal Washington Post. They have been tracking police killings for the past 5 years. In 2019, approximately 1000 people were killed by police. 230 black people were in that number, of which all but 10 were armed. Any loss of life is tragic, but these numbers show that there isn't a systemic culture in policing to foment violence against black people. The trend line for fatal shootings is actually showing a decrease in the number of black people shot by police. A Harvard study showed police were LESS likely to shoot a black man than other races. More black people were killed last weekend in Chicago than the entire number of unarmed black people killed by police during the entire year of 2019. This is not a defense of killing anyone, but we can't be burning our country down over a false narrative!
