Jehovah's Witnesses and Showing Off
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? inso i guess it's convention time again back in wisconsin or illinois or wherever the hell they drive nowadays.
someone made me unfortunately have to remember this.
so i got to thinking about the conventions and the showing off that took place there:.

I always felt pressured to dress up for conventions..but after a while I just started wearing the same clothes I wore to the meetings...But I rather vividly remember that single people would see conventions like bar hopping..Time to scope out the prospects....

What generation witness are you?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini'm a 4th generation witness.
however, i have jw cousins with grown grandchildren (that makes 6 generations), and two of them are married--all in the "truth.
" if they have kids, they will be 7th generation.

the issue that another member is having with childcare and yet another poster asking me why i'm still here after being out for 24 years has prompted me to type this up.. so here goes:.

thank you for sharing your story..i can't believe that you were so courageous at such a young...and you had such a clear idea of what you wanted to do..nursing school, moving out with our friend..really amazing....i'm sorry that right now you're having problems with your son...what your parents did in telling him is sooooooooo wrong on so many levels....they completely underminded you...i hope things go better with him in the future...

My Theory
by Princess Daisy Boo ini have had this theory for a very long time and i would like to hear what everyone has to say about this.. i think that people are either inherantly religious or not.
if they are inherantly religious, then the wtbts will naturally apeal to them, all the deep in depth study and the bible analysis and so on.
they feel the need to look to a higher source for fulfilment.. and then there are those that are not inherantly religious... the ones the prefer to concentrate on the here and now.

welcome to the board!!! very interesting subject..I've thought this too..but I was also thinking about what white dove said...I've known many people who seem to want to know the answers to deeper questions and go on to study philosophy, not necessarily anything religious...and they are definitely not the type of people that want a scapegoat or want to be told what to do...i think there are people who are curious naturally and want to know more and there are others who don't....neither one is better than the other mind you...

COLLEGE IS EVIL!!!!!
by why??? inhi everyone...this year i had to go to the district convention and with my newly opened mind...i sat there rolling my eyes the whole time...i was however very distrubed by a talk on higher education...im sure you all know of it...basically telling all of us outright that it was no good and we shouldnt be going...now i know they have done it in the past...but it seemed so blatant this year in your face...college is evil.....here's a related link .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7vxnzoeeys&mode=related&search= .
hopefully the links work ..im not really sure how to do it .......

I agree with monophonic..College is not only about education but networking too....When I think of all the unemployed brothers and sisters in my old hall..imagine..with no education and no one to "hook" you up..especially in a latin country where there is already so much crisis...I feel so sorry for these people. They are so lost and the worst part is that their families suffer as well. Their children, their wives, their marriages...it's like a domino effect.

may need some help soon
by Missanna inok so i send my father a letter telling him several reasons i do not believe the witnesses are jehovah's organization.i also told my father at the end of the letter that i was setting some boundaries once and for all.
that i would not be emotionally blackmailed or verbally abused anymore that if he wanted to talk to me as a father then i welcome that and if he can't do that then i do not wish to comunicate with him.
i sent it about a week ago and was waiting for all hell to break loose but nothing happend.

Funny..when i read this thread it was like exactly what i asked my mom the other day. How is Jehovah manifesting his approval or blessing on the witnesses only??? What evidence shows this?..Her answer was somewhat disappointing. I expected so much more from someone who dedicated their whole life to the organization...She said the increase...to which i responded..big increase in evangelists too in latin america....and this was the killer.....happy people in the organization...first, happiness is not limited to just witnesses...i mean i just had to ask "how would you know?" are you drinking coffee with your neighbors or socializing at all with them??? I can name you a couple families who are perfectly happy (non church going) and have nice decent moral lives...on the other hand..I can name you several broken up homes within the congregation and depressed unhappy people.... my advice to you...don't expect too much...you can try to reason..hopefully your sister will reason..but I know I just lost alot of respect for a person I always considered an intelligent thinking woman.....

Did you have to dress up for meeting?
by ericr ini remember having to dress up for every meeting even the ones during the week.
i had to wear a botton down shirt dress pants, a tie, dress shoes, dress socks and a blazer.
this was also required by my parents to dress up when going door to door.
