The lepers can be non-JW "worldlings" -or- JWs depending on your perspective. To have no lepers is to really depart from that way of thinking.

Aye.. Okay I went and watched it, at BUYTHEgeniusclub.com and this from the blurb: "By morning, the group finds redemption in themselves and quite possible the world." I gotta wonder what they think redemption is, since the focus is clearly on others, the rest of the world - that is the kind of thinking that is behind it after all.
Why is it the GENIUS club anyway? Why even a CLUB? If it's a spiritual thing why does it have to be geniuses? Someone is really confused.

He's suppose to save the world? I thought that was God's job, or atleast Jesus'? Yet another story, people do love their drama.

I'm sorry to hear that, there was a brother around here that hung himself - and nobody ever knew what was up, or maybe they close their eyes to the signs like everything else.
There is a great power in the ability to separate yourself from others, unfortunately it is used very capriciously without much understanding. Sad thing is it actually happens all the time, situations like these just shows how deadly it can be. I go back to the religious beliefs cutting you off from natural affection, and it all unfolds from there. If love is real, it amounts to anti-love. Funny how people can end up doing the complete opposite of what they preach.

Describe the Perfect Woman or Man....
by Dragonlady76 inok after the serena williams thread and a few others that focus on looks i want to know what your idea of perfection in the opposite or same sex is.. i like muscular men with a full head of hair, i love classic features like a strong nose and jaw.. i also find blond blue eyed men sexy (don't ask me why).
i don't like that are to thin, nice teeth and soft eyes.. ok now it's your turn.. .

I think Norah Jones kind of says it well in these words:
What am I to you?
Tell me darling true
To me you are the sea
Vast as you can be
Deep the shade of blue -

Why is god so angry?
by keyser soze inin reading the scriptures, it is clear that god has some serious anger issues, not to mention insecurities.
how does he deal with anyone who displeases him in the old testament?
he not only kills them, but their children, and their children's children.

That's a very reasonable view, although God or any kind of spirituality does not necessarily enter into such a developmental perspective. Some might say conscience is not learned, although you'd still need to learn that it's there so it's kind of semantics. But there is a significant difference between a learned, socially acceptable standard of behavior and a natural faculty that may be covered up by a lot of learning. The same is true with psychology, I'm afraid sometimes people may be so absorbed by feel-good ways of thinking about themselves that they construct a false psyche, when there is an actual, natural structure they are born with that is perfectly fine and has the potential to grow - but they think it needs to be replaced by something "better." It is certainly understandable if people didn't have a good childhood, but you kind of end up confusing the early learning with the original mind you're born with.

Cognitive Dissonance
by KW13 inaccording to wikipedia;.
cognitive dissonance is a psychological term describing the uncomfortable tension that may result from having two conflicting thoughts at the same time, or from engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's beliefs, or from experiencing apparently conflicting phenomena.. in simple terms, it can be the filtering of information that conflicts with what you already believe, in an effort to ignore that information and reinforce your beliefs.
in detailed terms, it is the perception of incompatibility between two cognitions, where "cognition" is defined as any element of knowledge, including attitude, emotion, belief, or behavior.

Not just conflicting thoughts, it is an issue when a thought conflicts with your sense of self or reality. As George Costanza said on Seinfeld: "Worlds are colliding!" Funny thing is, it never seems to occur to people that you can just look at it as conflicting INFORMATION, and not have an existential crisis or something. Guess you're really entrenched in those beliefs, then.

I can hear the crickets..
Well 2002 - I must have been hanging around Spirit Rock at that time, I know I've sat with him but this doesn't sound like a retreat talk.
It should be pointed out the whole nature of this kind of teaching is to say what it is not, it's not that there is self or that there is no self, you neither cling to something nor push it away. On one level it's understandable that someone might be going "well thanks for nothing!" because that whole process really doesn't say anything. But the "middle path" can be described as a "third thing" - which is not a matter of avoiding the extremes of grasping or averting, but behavior that is completely different in nature. Unfortunately people seem to be hung up on changing their behavior on the same level by avoiding what they consider extremes, but it is not about behavior on a horizontal level. Trying to change how you behave is in itself a self improvement project - but it amounts to making neat piles of aggregates.

Online Dating
by FreeGirl2006 in*sigh* i was seeing someone for several months, but it is not working out.
so i went back to my only way of meeting men thus far--online dating sites.
i have had some really cool experiences, but i think i am getting burnt out....if i read one more email from a guy that reads "u r booteful and i wud luv to chat with u and then maybe we go out and eat" (or my personal favorite today--"you are eye-popping"--i am busty and the current picture reveals that little fact) i think i will puke!

Although it depends on how you use it, a big part of it is people rely on this standardized system for something that is supposed to be very individual - although a lot of them probably don't really care as long as they get a hottie or something. I don't care if it's eHarmony or how sophisticated and complex the system is, if you are not reducible to a profile or a set of questionaires then it is only good as a beginning point - and not so good at that judging by these kinds of experiences.
