thought this could get interesting discussing experiences.

i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.

had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

Hmm I'm curious if anyone on here knows anything about those, although if it's anything like what I remember the "security" is probably tight. Anyway it sure is a different animal than the typical JWs we know, will be interesting to see how things play out.

Why leave out some of God's creatures?

one thing i've noticed in the wt paradise pics is that they leave out many of god's wonderful creatures.

why aren't there more pictures of children petting cockroaches, tickling the bellies of snails and letting scorpions sit on their shoulders?

if every animal is made by god, why be biased and leave some out?.

Because it doesn't fit into the limited picture they've drawn in their mind, like serpents are obviously bad. It is the nature of us-against-them thinking to exclude the "others."

How do you teach how to tithe? 10% is pretty much basic math.. Motivate perhaps.

Anyway worldly is of course most of the world that the JWs/others are sheltered from, because they translate that scripture as "being no part of the world" rather than in the world but not of it. Therefore they are afraid of such things as seeing brief nudity in an R rated film.

Did the time come when it became unbearable to walk in the Kingdom Hall?

i didn't attend any meetings in the month of august.

i worked too many hours and i just don't care any longer.

just the thought of driving 45 minutes,greeting brothers and sisters who don't really care about each other,singing the dreadful songs,listening to the boring talk(which are repeats of a repeat),going over the slanted watchtower study and then driving another 45 minutes home.. how did you feel when you knew that it was becoming unbearable to attend another meeting?.

I mentioned this in another thread, but shortly before I stopped going I got so upset at a CO's talks that I handed him a letter after a service meeting one day - I wasn't going out though!

in detailed terms, it is the perception of incompatibility between two cognitions, where "cognition" is defined as any element of knowledge, including attitude, emotion, belief, or behavior.

Yes, I've heard it said that when there's a lot of acting out such as when one may get extra-preachy, it is actually kind of a death knell, a last ditch effort for that way of thinking to preserve itself.

I just couldn't bring myself to do it anymore, because I would essentially be violating my own integrity.

Body Modification/older societies/similar to WBTS view of women

i have just read the book, "snow flower and the secret fan" along with watching part of the national geographic series "taboo".

sadly, most of the modification involves distortion of the female body which then inturn, affects the minds for generations.. most of the justification for the body modification was to keep women in line mentally.

generation after generation of mothers were taught that neck lengthening, breast flatening, foot binding, and female circumsizing kept the girls clean and free from attracting men and kept them "down" in their societies.. i am not suggesting the wbts society approved of these physical methods, but the mental ramifications were adhered to and the result is the same.. women are considered second class citizens in this patriarchal society.

The age old "keep the women in their place" attitude from that earlier time period is still firmly practiced and in place.

And of course this is a place that was created/engineered isn't it? If it is not natural, then it wasn't "their place" in the first place!

And as far as the idea of a woman seducing a man into sin, lets see: If you can be spiritual while being in the flesh, which pretty much all traditions accept otherwise why bother - then how can you blame anyone? Of course that is viewed as a historical oh-sh!t moment rather than any kind of individual responsibility, (forces within yourself to be brought into harmony) which is nice because you can blame someone else be it the other sex or your great-great-great-great-great grandparents in the past.

Also another way you might look at it is if you go with the idea that women are more earthly and men are more spiritual, (simplistic generalization of course, but just for the sake of argument) then Eve was doing what she was supposed to do. Adam screwed up because that is supposedly his role.

Anyway, another way of looking at it is in the big picture, there is a "body modification" going on in terms of the environment. Not that there's any real spiritual impetus behind that, mind you, but the same kind of dominance perspective is behind it. But it isn't just a matter of who's in power, because behind the dominance is plain old ignorance.
