by park ave boy inquick background.
a few days ago someone brought up an old new york newspaper called the "brooklyn eagle.
" during lunch i had a little time to do some research about the whole jw.borg and what i found almost knocked me out of my seat.

My son's and I's first Valentines Day, Friendship day celebration since our awakening!!
by Khaleesi inso this weekend will be my first time celebrating friendship day since stop celebrating due to being a jw for years.
the most exciting part for me and makes me very happy is finally to have my son participate and be involved in normal activities at school with classmates.
no longer will i allow him to be ostracized at school due to the wt "cult's" ridiculous reasoning why some things are not okay to participate while others are okay.

Hi khaleesi, well done I'm so happy that you and your son are enjoying life to the full with all those terrible wordly people lol. My two teenagers just left the cult with me this year, they have both told me how difficult and painful it was to be excluded from celebrations and birthday parties, even though I though we were giving them a good childhood and that they were happy, they were both hurting and felt ostracized, they now have emotional scars. My daughter celebrates her first birthday at 15 next week. I will make sure my little one does not get excluded in the same way.
Thank you for your post it's so nice to hear from likeminded people going through the same things X

If all the world were JWs....
by Tornintwo inin my former indoctrinated state, i used to yearn for a time when all the world would be jws.
but hang on minute, let's just think about what the world would be like if everyone was a jw,.
first of all, no higher education, so no medical advances, no scientific research, no modern day medicine, infectious disease rife, no doctors, no engineers, so no modern day comforts.

No war but instead everyone dying of cholera, malaria etc, stuck in the dark ages with a life expectancy of 30
and I agree with heartsafire, it wouldn't take long for stoning to come back in to 'protect the clean people'..
oh and no Sport to watch on tv, in fact no tv! And what kind of sex lives would we all have? omg I think my zealous jw husband would kill himself. I wonder if they all say thank you Jehovah every night for all the worldly people helping to make their lives so safe and comfortable.

I wouldn't be sitting here speaking via Internet to people on the other side of the world, there would be no internet! Etc etc.
How about you, how would you envisage this world if everyone were witnesses?

Your associates are like elevator doors, they'll open your eyes, or keep them closed.
If they open you get to step outside and enjoy freedom, if they stay closed you stay trapped inside that small, narrow elevator with a handful of other trapped weirdos for the rest of your life

Did you go to your ASSIGNED congregation?
by Zoos inthe rule was (is) that you go to your assigned congregation.. growing up, i think our family was in our assigned congregation only one of three times.
the family made two major moves when i was a kid and each time my folks would visit the various congregations in the area and pick the one with the most kids.
given our association restrictions with the world, they wanted to make sure we had plenty of friends.. i have to give them credit where due.

Hubby didn't want us to go to our assigned cong a few times, he often had problems with different elders. Of course it held him back and he never progressed beyond m.s., he still loves the Borg, thought even though he's had his fair share of harsh treatment. -

Stepping out of the shadows
by contramundum ini have been lurking on the site for a few months and thought it about time i plucked up the courage to step out of the shadows and say hello.. i am in the process of fading after realizing all is not right with the organization i had trusted implicitly for over 40 years.
there have always been 'truths' i have struggled to accept entirely, even as a child, but was confident that trusting in jehovah, building my faith and remaining patient would be enough to settle any nagging doubts that remained, so i pushed any inconsistencies to the back of my mind and concentrated on being the best witness that i could be.. over the last few years, however, i have been preoccupied with a number of crises in my family and stepping back slightly from 'theocratic' activity has allowed me to re evaluate a number of concerns and research sources other than the sanitized wt publications.. my eyes are now wide open - i found things which have appalled me and left me feeling extremely let down and disappointed by people i had really trusted.. i tried gently raising a few subjects with my mum (who was baptized early '70s and still remains a staunch wt supporter) but she will hear no criticism of the organization.
i understand this because the best part of her life has been invested in the religion and to acknowledge it may have got things wrong would be to recognize the last 40 years have been a vain waste.

Welcome contra, great to have you here.
I woke up last year after over 22 years a zealous jw, it's a painful process. I think most of us had doubts and niggles the whole time but it takes something painful or shocking for us to finally listen to those doubts and research them independently. Congratulations on your strong mind.
Like most here, I gave up so many opportunities for the 'truth' and it turned out to be 'BS', it's hard not to feel bitter at what might have been, but it's not helpful, best now to enjoy life and look forward. For a start enjoy the free time when you skip meetings and service and do what you want to do for a change!
