I just do not understand why they restrict education! I do know why they do it- people leave the J.W. religion, they may question the religion. Yet, I do not from an economic point of view understand it. Would it not bode well for the J.W.'s to have followers who are indeed educated, well spoken and of course with money? This money would inevitably land in the WTBTS deep pockets, why wouldn't they want that? What is the purpose of having uneducated folks who believe, if they shop at a garage sale, that coffee table they bought at a bargin price, might have a Ouija board drawn on the underside? I mean really, this alone should be a major wake up call for most J.W.'s who are still neck deep in the WTBTS bullshit! BTW, I am infamous for inserting too many commas or not using any at all. I apologize for any mistakes. :) I may not know my way around a comma, but I do know my way around a damn garage sale!

Burning Question: Snacks at Kingdom Hall
by TreadClimberMaster ini have not been to a kingdom hall for years, about 6. i have been going to other churches, namely, unity, unitarian and tonight a jewish reform temple.
what i notice at all of these churches is one recurring theme: they all serve snacks, coffee and punch in the foyer before and after the services.
this is really nice and i truly enjoy it!

I love the fact that all churches have childcare. It really makes the experience so much more enjoyable. My kiddo loves going to church, he gets to socialize with little kids, he is not expected to sit still and quiet for 2 plus hours and I get to actually listen to the service. It is very nice indeed. JW's really need to reevaluate their policy of no childcare and snacks! They are such joy suckers!

Yes, but still this is not a solid answer. There must be some deep and profound explination for this. By deep and profound, I am being sarcastic.

Why don't JW's do it? I think that going to the Kingdom Hall would be a lot less traumatic for everyone if they had some delicious brownies and punch in the foyer. BTW, the Jewish temple has the best snacks yet! I mean talk about a spread! Shabbat Shalom! Does anyone have an answer?????

Forget all of the stages: Denial, Anger, Sadness - Don't you sometimes just feel STUPID for having believed in the Organization?
by BonaFide ini know i have been through all those stages, i denied it, then i got angry, definitely sad.
months and months of this, and i still am in for my family and friends.. but sometimes i just feel stupid.
why did i ignore basic common sense for so long?
-

Don't feel stupid, take it for what it is. I felt stupid for a time, but have had to get over it. It is not worth it. Also, remember, your so called friends are only conditional friends. This group does not foster true friendships.

WT: mainstreaming, becoming more cultish, or disappearing?
by JimmyPage inis the wt mainstreaming into a more normal religion, is it tightening its grip, or are its leaders preparing to take the money and run, leaving its followers high and dry?

Metatron is totally right, they are compromising, which means they are mainstreaming...they have to stay in step with the times...

How Long Have you Been Out of the Witnesses ? Have you Moved On ?
by flipper ini have been out over 5 years now.
i feel we all start healing at different speeds depending on how much hurt we went through in exiting ; and how much we've educated ourselves about how and why we were sucked in by a mind control cult.
at first i felt anger towards the organization , but after learning about mind control within 3 years of leaving the cult i felt sorry for those who are still trapped inside the witnesses being deceived.

I never really believed it, but never said a word, I was too afraid. I went along with the game, doing just what I needed to get by and not be noticed, almost like I was in a trance. I couldn't take it anymore in about 02 and 03. I was at a book study and a couple of elders and thier wives were mocking an older sister who had a mental disabilty and sacrificed a lot to be there. They would exchange looks and snicker each time she commented. I thought, this can't be right, why am I here, I don't even believe this crap. I finally left in around 03, I just couldn't take it anymore. Someday's I feel like a big dummy, how did I let myself go on so long, even when I knew it wasn't true! I was a born in and really had a hard time letting it go. I am glad I finally did, I wish I didn't still think about it, and most days I don't...

You know what really makes me mad/sad is that some people cannot enjoy their lives now, because they are constantly wanting the world to end and for paradise to begin...no wonder depression runs so high among JW's

How did you feel about attending another church?
by digderidoo inthis question is for those who have attended another church since leaving the jw's.. i have considered attending a local church, firstly out of curiosity and secondly because i do enjoy discussing the bible with people and learning new thoughts on scripture.. the only thing that stops me though is crossing that line.
i guess it was a bit like when i first posted here, it took me ages to pluck up the courage and now what was the big deal?.
did anyone else have this feeling before attending another church, that feeling of crossing the line of no return.

I have been to a Unitaritan church a few times and go now and then to a local Unity Church. I feel so scarred by JW's rigid dogma, that I cannot attend a church that is fundamentalist in any way. I never believed that only one religion was a path to God, but that God is so great and big, that all religions lead to him. Unity really believes that all paths do lead to God. It is a very liberal church, accepting of all people and religious views, with a bit of Hinduism thrown in... I really like it...
