Overseer's Visit & Hypocrisy

why is it that when the overseer visits the congregation, that just about everybody shows up to the meetings and they all go in the field service?

a whole week of endless zeal just to prove that they are all so spiritual.

is gone, they all come back to normal.

A few years ago our bookstudy was assigned to feed the CO on Saturday. Well, everyone in the congregation figured it'd be really nice to provide lunch for EVERYONE that showed up for service that day, so we were supposed to plan on fixing a big lunch for dozens of people. Now if that wasn't enough of a joke to feed everyone..nobody in our bookstudy volunteered to help with food, so my wife and I got stuck feeding everyone. We ended up going to Subway and getting tons of sub sandwiches. I was so pissed!!! I told my wife...why the f*** are we feeding everybody?? We're only supposed to fix lunch for the CO, not the entire congregation....let them bring their OWN lunch. I told the PO I wasn't happy and he told me that it was a privilege and this is what the elders decided to do. They thought it would encourage everyone.........well it did! It encouraged everyone to come and get a free frickin' meal! Needless to say we never volunteered for anything again!!!!

IS THIS A HEALING PLACE?

many come to this board with wounds from the past in the jdub dom.

sometimes this place just pours salt in these wounds, attacking peoples character and support groups that people seek refuge.

(ie silent lambs) im sure in disgust many have vacated the board.

I found this site from doing a search on the internet. At first I was hesitant to look, because after all, anything on the internet about JDubs is bad. But after awhile, I really enjoyed coming here because it helped me answer many of my questions as I was leaving the borg, and I appreciated the fact that there were so many more people like me with questions...(okay, A LOT MORE!) But I tried to hide the fact that I came here from my wife, because I was afraid she'd think I was turning apostate (Oh, wouldn't that be terrible..Ha) But I'm now glad to say that even she looks at this board every so often, but she doesn't post on it. But we've both gotten a kick out of many of the things that people have posted. I for one am extremely thankful for this board and especially appreciative of Simon for running it!

we know that the wt portrays the jw's as a "happy" people.

the wt would have the world believe that the wt organization as a whole is a "happy" organization.

yet somehow they still believe that jw's are a "happy" people.

Smiles.....everything you mentioned is true. We were not happy. Funny thing though.....once we left, we all of a sudden got much happier. I'm sure it was just a coincidence....

2.8% INCREASE IN JAN 1 WATCHTOWER

perhaps this information has already been posted, so if it has i apologize.

but according to the jan 1st watchtower which was given to me, there was a 2.8% increase in publishers in the world over last year, with over 1.2 billion hours spent in service...(like those numbers aren't inflated.... when i looked back at the 92 watchtower, the number of partakers was only 8850...a mere 90 people more.

so in the span of an entire decade...only 90 people have died?????

While the numbers overall aren't impressive, what I found very interesting is the number of partakers at the Memorial last year.....8760.

When I looked back at the 92 Watchtower, the number of partakers was only 8850...a mere 90 people more. So in the span of an entire decade...only 90 people have died????? And if you go back 20 years to 1982, the number of partakers was 9601, a mere 841 more than now. I would assume that since most of these people were supposedly alive at the time the number was supposedly sealed, they should all be dead by now. I thought the generation that saw 1914 wouldn't pass away until..........oh wait, what was I thinking.....NEW LIGHT! That doesn't apply anymore...silly me!!! Well, at least the part about some of the annointed would live through Armaggedon is correct...because at this rate of fall off...it'll be somewhere around the year 2245 when there won't be anymore annointed and Armaggedon will surely come by then.....

My bethel application

i only did the two week temp thing, but i still had to fill out a long application and send it back.

one of the questions that stands out in my mind was something to the effect of: "do you believe that the organization of jehovah's witnesses is god's sole spirit directed organization on earth?

when i read that, i felt a strange sensation.

I was encouraged to apply for temp service when I was younger. Back 15 years ago, it was the "in" thing to do. All young brothers were to either apply for temp or permanent service. But I never did! Then as the years went on, I was encouraged to go back and visit and see how this truly was Jehovah's organization. But I never did! So to this day...I have never been to New York to see Bethel! Now that's an accomplishment to be proud of!!!

By the way Elsewhere...did you leave a little mess on the sheets for the maids to clean up???

For years I remember people making comments about how the CO visit drew everybody out of the woodwork, and then after it was over, everybody went about their normal routine....(which meant skipping service and meetings) This is the situation just about everywhere. I never understood why someone who didn't make a lot of meetings would always show up for the CO visit. I guess they figured he might share some information that was vitally important...of course, that never happened. It was always the same ol' crapola....."friends, we've notice your meeting attendance and service time have slipped since my last visit". Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah....

Of course, I now skip all the meetings, not just a few......

Informal Witnessing

well, i was on the road this morning when my wife called me from her cell.

she proceeded to tell me she stopped to get coffee when this asian woman kept trying to talk to her in broken english.

since my wife couldn't understand her, she politely nodded and said, "that's nice" and started walking to her car.

Since my wife couldn't understand her, she politely nodded and said, "that's nice" and started walking to her car. Well...this lady started following my wife and trying to talk to her in broken english. My wife was starting to get weirded out wondering what the hell does this lady want??? Well as my wife got to her car, this asian woman thrusted an Awake magazine at her..the one on free speech. My wife couldn't believe that this whole time, this woman was trying to witness to her. She said she never understood a thing she said. My wife just took the magazine to get rid of her..(like most people do, and besides, my wife was already late for work) and then this woman proceeded to get into a van that was parked right beside my wife....loaded with a whole group of witnesses just sitting in there. I'm sure they were all taking turns (or drawing short straws..:) as to who gets out.

Now I for one never did any informal witnessing when I was in the borg. I just felt going to someone's home was intrusive enough without having to try and witness to someone when they go to work, or shopping or whatever. Hell, they probably figured they were safe from the witnesses because they weren't at home....WRONG! And then to have someone out there trying to peddle magazines that can't even speak english, and then starts to follow someone out to their vehicle. If it was me, I'd start telling them to get the hell away from me and quit following me...but of course my wife is nicer than me...:) And then it totally cracked up my wife that here was this huge group of witnesses, sitting nice and warm in their van, drinking their coffee, and counting their time while someone else does the dirty work. There were lots of other people there, why didn't more of them get out and witness????? Because nobody wants to do service anymore, they just want to count time!! Thank god my service days are over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was born around this time, and my mother used to tell me years ago when I was in high school that she could remember having me on her lap at a District Convention one year, and the speaker telling the audience that all the mothers out there with kids on their lap will never have to send their children to school. Of course I'm way beyond school now. But of course when I've subtly mentioned this to her, she basically shrugs it off like it's no big deal. I believe that's what the majority of witnesses do if you ever mention anything like this.....they just shrug it off and continue to peddle books and say the end is right around the corner.....too bad they can't step outside of the box!

i have seen several threads about how the elders are going to be going around asking people if they still consider themselves to be jehovah's witnesses.

this will undoubtedly result in multiple da announcements in the coming months.

i'm curious how the average jw will perceive this and respond to it.

And Sabine....my heart goes out to you and your situation. I know Marilyn and Dave, and would at some point like to meet you and your husband. My wife and I live in the same area and have known Dave and Marilyn for many years.

And last.....DON'T GIVE IN TO THE CHEESE AND CRACKER MEN!!!

I need Survivor Info

had a basketball game at the highschool tonight (won 61-39) but i didn't set the vcr.

so i have no clue as to who got voted off.

i know it wasn't a hot babe as they've been gone awhile.

I always have watched all of the Survivor episodes, and while in this episode, Jan may be the nice one that should win....I must say that Brian is quite the Survivor player. I think he's extremely smart when it comes to playing this game. I had a feeling into the 3rd or 4th episode, that Brian was going to be one of the final 2. And so far I've been correct. He knows how to play this game better than anyone I've seen in any of the Survivor episodes. And I think he's smart enough to know who should be with him in the final 2, so that he will get the most votes. (obviously this would mean Clay) I've always known that he was going to take Clay with him. They're extremly tight. He just needs to get Helen to believe that he's on her side so they will all vote for Jan next week. I know, I know....boooo! But that's the way this game is played....nice guys always finish last on Survivor!!!
