That was one of the best posts I have read in a long time. Pretty much sums up everything in a nutshell. Well done!!

THE INFORMATION AGE AND NEW JW MARKETING CHANGES
by seven006 inlately on this board there has been a couple of threads that show how much the watchtower is being effected by the open communication of the internet and web sites like this one.
they are changing long time policy and trying new ways of getting their religious product to the market.
no longer do their leaders hear the voice of god and then pass it directly on as unwavering guidance to their customers.

Ever met high ranking JW and felt uneasy
by AlanB inthis came up in another topic and feel it needs a topic of its own.
does anyone else have experiences of meeting (cant use the word 'brothers')men from high up in the borg and felt uneasy about it.. alanb wrote.
i was at twickenham many years ago (about 20) and went to the admin area to get info about serving where the need was great (great plan that turned out to be) anyway there were two elderly yet autstere brothers standing at the steps to the main office area looking as though they owned the place, they had a real air of seniority and importance about them, i have no idea who they were, yet sense they were senior one was english the other american.. .

I actually got to briefly meet Daniel Sydlick in an elevator one time. I was being an elevator attendant at the Tacoma Dome convention one year back in the 90's. He got into the elevator and made a brief comment to me. (don't ask me to remember what it was) He had a little following with him. All I could remember thinking was this man was supposed to be the closest thing on the planet to god, and he didn't appear anything special to me. Of course now I know better.
Funny thing was, he gave the last talk on Sunday. I was also a parking attendant, so I had to head outside to the parking lot 15 minutes or so before the convention ended. Well, once all us attendants got there, we waited, and waited, and waited for everyone to come streaming out. Finally, 45 minutes (or longer, I can't remember exactly, it felt like eternity) after it was supposed to end, they came out. Ends up Mr. Sydlicker went a tad overtime....par for the course for a member of the GB during convention time. It was bad enough to be there for 3 days, and I always looked forward to Sunday, cause not only was it over, but it ended earlier than the other days. But not when you have Sid Lycker giving the last talk...

Got the latest congregation scoop on JW rapist Curtis Thompson....
by jimbob ini had to go over to my mother's place today to do a little computer work for her, and she filled me in with what's been happening in her congregation since jw curtis thompson was arrested for rape.. she told me a sister told her that another sister thought that the police were trying to frame curtis for the charges, and that he didn't do anything.
and then another sister who's been a jw for years and years told my mother that she had felt sorry for curtis because he was trying to get his life together and wanted to go to college, but he was told that if he did, they would inform the class each day he was a registered sex offender.
when i heard this crap from my mom, i about went ballistic!!

That's a very good point Nathan. As long as he doesn't speak out against the Botchtower, he's okay. My mother told me he was at all the meetings up until about 4 weeks before his arrest. He first started missing bookstudy and then the school and service meeting. She did say he was at the Sunday meeting right before his arrest.
I told her I bet he commented at the Watchtower and they called on him as Brother Thompson....to which she told me I was correct. He commented regulary and was always called on as Brother Thompson. How pathetic of a religion that will df people in a flash if they say anything negative about the Society, but won't df a serial, sadist, and extremely violent convicted rapist. Makes me want to throw-up!

Just loaded the 2003 Watchtower CD rom......
by jimbob inactually, i loaded it for my mother.
i had to do a little work on her computer today and she had just gotten the cd and asked me to load it for her.
what was interesting was the dialog box agreement that the user had to agree to in order to load it.

I think most of the classic JW thinking found in the older publications are already on the internet. I'm sure they are just trying to scare the dubbies and make sure nothing else leaks out. They're pretty cautious these days cause they know how powerful the internet is...remember, it's a tool of the DEVIL!!

When I heard this crap from my mom, I about went ballistic!! I told her this exactly the JW mindset when it comes to stuff like this. I also said I bet those same sisters would feel a tad different if it was them that Curtis had targeted. Thank god my mom had enough smarts to agree with me again! She told me she couldn't believe what was being told to her. She said Curtis should be locked up forever. (Gee, do you think??)
Now here's the best part.....when I asked her if they were going to df him, she said they weren't because the elders couldn't meet with him! What a f***ed up bunch of people!! (No, I didn't say it quite like that to her....) I told her that was absolutely ludicrous!!! The one person that deserves to be shunned and they won't because they have to meet with him first. I said to her, "Well, it's not like they don't know where he's at....go meet with him"! Anyway, she said with all the lawsuits revolving around dfing people, they won't do it. And I thought that was interesting for her to bring up that point. Imagine that...lawsuits against the Watchtower!! Anyway, it's probably a moot point anyway to df him, cause he ain't gonna get to talk to no one where he's going. (except for bubba!! Hopefully he'll get a taste of what he's done to others)
So again, the JW mindset completely rules out any common sense, but rather, embraces completely stupidity in thinking a convicted sadist rapist is a good brother who has the world against him. God it's good to be free from the bullsh*t of organized religion. Especially the Watchtower!!

Actually, I loaded it for my mother. I had to do a little work on her computer today and she had just gotten the cd and asked me to load it for her. What was interesting was the dialog box agreement that the user had to agree to in order to load it. I copied and pasted it in an email that I sent to myself. Below is the agreement exactly how it appears. Notice the highlighted parts....
Dear Brothers:
We are happy to provide for Jehovah's Witnesses a new version of Watchtower Library. Please read the following six points about proper use of Watchtower Library and answers to questions that you may have. The License Agreement, which will be presented later during the actual installation, sets out in legal language a license covering copyright protection. If you accept the license and thus will use this electronic tool in your Bible research, indicate your agreement after reading it.
YOUR USE OF WATCHTOWER LIBRARY
1. What constitutes proper use?
Watchtower Library has been designed for your personal use. Hence, you may copy, print, or excerpt from the data for your personal use. But you may not distribute the program or large sections of the data to others who do not own Watchtower Library on CD-ROM. Nor may you copy, print, or excerpt from the copyrighted data to prepare and distribute books. Please do not put the program or data on the Internet or any public network.2. Who may have a copy of Watchtower Library?
Watchtower Library is a research tool for Jehovah's Witnesses, not for the public or for institutions such as schools or libraries.3. May I copy the program and data onto my hard disk and then not use the CD-ROM?
Yes, that is possible with this version. Less disk space is involved when you access the data from the CD-ROM itself; however, the speed of some operations is significantly improved if the data is stored on the hard disk.4. If I personally own several computers, may I copy Watchtower Library 2001 and/or its data onto these?
Yes.5. May I make a duplicate of my CD-ROM as a backup in case I lose or damage my original?
Yes, but this does not refer to duplicating the CD-ROM for others, which would fall outside the realm of personal use.6. May I write commercial software or utilities that employ the program or data from Watchtower Library?
No. It is not proper to charge for or to receive money from writing or distributing any software that employs the Watchtower Library program, utilities, or data.I thought that was interesting in that nobody but JW's should own a copy. Not even libraries. Wouldn't you think that they would want everyone to have a copy so the public can access all Watchtower and Awakes and other publications so they can come to know Jehovah?? Gee, I guess if the public got a hold of it, they might see through all the Watchtower bs. I guess the only way the public can get access is by having a JW drone come to your door and give them to you..

You'd better pioneer or else tell Jehovah why you can't !!
by Gopher inback around 1980 (i cannot remember the exact year), the speaker at the district convention said that each non-fulltime-pioneer jw should pray to jehovah and explain to him why they cannot pioneer.
if you can't come up with a reason, then you should start pioneering.. if i remember correctly, this counsel was repeated in the pages of the watchtower magazine the following year.. did anyone here respond to this "encouragement"?
i think it pushed me toward pioneering, although i didn't do it for very long.. this was a subtle but powerful guilt trip that tested your loyalty to the organization.

YUP! I totally remember this counsel being given at an assembly. I didn't realize it at the time, of course, what a guilt trip they were laying on everyone. But I guess that's because I didn't realize it was a cult at the time.
This was absolute crap that they were giving us. But I knew nobody that decided to pioneer after being given this guilt trip...I guess we all told Jehovah that we'd rather work full time so we could pay our bills....
