Richard Scarry's Best Field Service Story--EVER
by LDH inok so pardon me for the take off on richard scarry--he really is one of my favorite all time children's authors.. but i had to share this field service story with you--it's the gospel truth!
hopefully, you can add some of yours.. while pioneering in upstate ny, my sister and i had frequent occasions to work in service with a married pioneer couple.
yes, they were window washers, but that's not the real story here.. they had a return visit on an elderly gentleman who was kind enough to take the magazines every once in a while.

That almond story had me on the floor rolling!! I would've given anything to see those dubs faces when they found out the man was sucking on them.
Probably the best field service story I can remember is when I was a teen in the early 80's, and a couple of brothers in our car group went to a door where a young woman answered not wearing anything from the waist up. The one brother, from what he told us, was able to go through his entire presentation without losing eye contact. If I remember correctly, she did take the mags. I'm sure those brothers didn't wait 2 weeks to make a return visit. And of course, I can remember thinking to myself....."DAMN, why didn't I get that door???"

Christmas Lights...
by Steve Egner inchristmas lights remind me, that we're closing in on the second anniversary of our disassociation.. two years ago, around this time, "gifts in men" from our old congregation paid us a visit regarding our christmas display.
we invited them in, ushering them slowly past our decorated tree, and seated them at our dining room table.
they said that it had come to their attention that we appeared to be celbrating christmas..."indeed we are," i saiid, "as we have for the last four years.

I forgot to mention that mine are on a timer, so they come on automatically at dusk and can stay on for 2,4, or 6 hours. I have it set right now for 4. But yes, I do enjoy coming home from work and seeing them on, as well as everybody else's lights that are on. A lot of homes in my neighborhood put up lights, so it's cool driving along the street and seeing so many homes lit up.
I guess I should be more diligent about turning the lights on before you get home, eh?
Yeah, I'd take that as a pretty subtle hint...

Okay...we're back from dinner. Thanks for the electrical tip, Steve. I'm actually okay installing a new breaker in the electrical panel. I did it for our hot tub. But if I have any doubts, I'll hit you up for his number. When we were still in the borg, there were times I needed electrical help, and we all know how many brothers in this area are electricians. But I sure had a hard time getting any help...including getting help from my brother-in-law, who's a journeyman electrician. It was like pulling teeth to get him to help me. But if I paid him $$, then he was more eager. Gotta love the "brotherly affection" they have for one another. (especially when there's $$$ involved)

It sounds like you have quite the display at your home. Tell Dave to get you a digital camera for Christmas so you can share photos. The wife is exactly the same way. She finds something for Christmas that she likes and she buys it. I think Christmas must be more of a female holiday than male... You have a pm waiting....

I tell you what, Marilyn...my wife is a light junkie. She absolutely loves lights! As soon as Christmas is over, she can't wait til next year. She has lights all around the inside of our home too. So next year will be our third Christmas, and I think we'll go all out. Our homeowner's association has a contest each Christmas for the best decorated house. We'll see if I can crack the top 5 next year....

Okay, here's our home at night. I was hesitant to put lights up high, especially since last year we had a wind storm that knocked them all down. ( we get lots of wind here during the winter) But I think for next year we're going to go all out and do the whole house top and bottom, along with my blow up Santa...

Sounds like to me they aren't hurting for contributions if they can afford to do all that....they just make the R&F think they are.

Okay...here's ours. My wife loves decorating our tree. Each year she gets a few more ornaments. So eventually, we'll probably have to get a bigger tree.
