Why is this surprising? WT has "always" said that. Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden, given directions on managing the land and the creatures, then told they could eat from every tree except one...and that's the limiting directive. They didn't need rules, they were in charge...they made the rules, or were supposed to, anyway. Were you taught something different by WT?

Can I Please Just Say...
by AGuest inthat it's "jewel-ry"... and not "joo-lery" (may you all have peace!)?
i know, i know... very small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
but, dang, if you're gonna host a television jewelry show, shouldn't you at least be able to say "jewelry"?

This is the part I don't get...why haven't they gone after the mom? Surely she knew the child didn't belong in the house with them! I read that she's now in a nursing home, and has been for three years, but still....
Brother Garrido's mum was a Dub too. Living in the house with them.

Great news and attitude ..
by Dudu ini had a great news at work, i will have few more responsabilities and more money !
:) also, i am starting a new business and i have a couple of clients already, so, i was telling this great news to my jw mom and she told me : dont get too proud of your financial success... be humble , remember is all jehovah's blessing .
i agree that good things are happening to me now, but is also the result of my hard work and responsability, and according to my jw mom i cannot be proud of it??

Your mother said it's all Jehovah's blessing? Use it. Every time she gives you grief, remind her that you have Jehovah's blessing!

Holy Spirit in Judicial Committees
by Mr. Falcon inone of the most controversial practices of jehovah's witnesses is the operation of judicial committees.
these specially-assigned inquisitory boards are manned by at least 3 elders and interrogate, investigate and finally prosecute a person believed to be guilty of any number of offenses.
these offenses can be anything from heavy drinking, masturbation, swearing to infidelity, apostacy even issues of bloodguilt.

WT says that baptism is a symbol of a person's dedication to God (and to The Organization, according to the 1985 baptism questions).
If God throws someone out of his organization (DF'ing), then doesn't it stand to reason that the person would have to be rebaptized to get back in?
Since WT doesn't require rebaptizing, isn't that evidence that their God has not thrown that person aside, that only The Organization has done so?
Anyway, that's how I reasoned it nearly 20 years ago and it completely changed my perspective on disfellowshipping, on committees, and on the notion that elders on judicial committees had any portion of Jehovah's Holy Spirit.

WT books thrown into the dumpster...
by NVR2L8 infor the last few weeks i have been pretty busy as we were moving to a new house.
my wife did most of the packing but when it came to the move, i realized that there are things we own that we had forgotten about because we haven't used them for years!
on top of the list was old wt publications that no longer contain the "truth" and publications available on the wt cd.

Once upon a time several years ago, a terrible thing split up our family, and I threw all my JW literature and media (huge collection) into a dumpster. The odd thing is I kept going to meetings for two or three years after that, through some really traumatic experiences (trying to hide the story here). Then the internet came along and I found Randy's site, read some stories that were similar to mine; one thing led to another and I was able to fade away from The Organization completely.
I didn't throw away the literature out of anger or anguish, I really knew I was "done" with WT 'way back then. So why did it take me several more years to disconnect physically when mentally it was already cut and dried?
Is throwing away the literature the disconnect or is it something else?

Seeking Advice Please
by Eiben Scrood insome background: i am an only child, a born-in, my parents were considered superstars of the watchtower having been missionaries and "exemplary" for their entire lives.
shortly after they died in 2002, i started a very slow fade and finally stopped all meeting attendance in 2005.. both sides of the family are, with a very few exceptions, also hardcore watchtowerites as in 'if the watchtower says my green bible is purple, then it must be purple.
' i have lost touch with one side of the family almost completely but the other side has always been close to me and in particular, i miss two cousins who were like brothers to me.

You've been trained not to make a move unless it has the whole group's approval. You can get over it, but it's slow and painful. Make up your mind what you want to do, do it, and get through by thinking "this, too, shall pass". Gradually, new people will enter your life and that's when you'll realize that what you knew as "family" and "love" was anything but.
Best wishes,
AnneB
