WORLDS APART: Actors Going in Service
by compound complex inthe orthodox muslim faith is a constant source of debate in the western world today, and it would be obvious to draw a parallel between saras dilemma and the difficult situation of young muslim girls in a western country like denmark today.
director niels arden oplev has openly stated that this was a parallel he had in mind when he made to verdener.. .
sara goes proselytizing with her father (jens jrn spottag) and younger sister (sarah juel werner).

Another push to make US use %@#* $1.00 coins
by Gregor inthe gov't has been trying to get us to use these clunkers for years.
i think this is the third try in the last 20 yrs.
this time they are so desperate they are putting out ps spots talking about how much this will save the gov't (as we all know the gov't is always looking for ways to save money) and that, of all things, it is a green thing to do.... most men carry their money in their pockets/wallet.

Is there any thread that you can't use as a dig against Americans, FD?
Probably not, but generally I don't. This thread is about Americans and I pointed out a relevant quirk of the USA's monetary system . I didn't even offer an opinion as to why this is an issue, just that it is and the solution used in almost every other country in the world is a good one. So not sure why you perceive it as a "dig". A little over-sensitive perhaps?
Damn the envy is thick over there.
That's it. People only criticise your country because they're envious.

Coinage is more handicapped-friendly.
Well, every other country in the world manages to print notes of different denominations in different sizes and colours so the visually-impaired have no difficulties using them. It also makes it easy to tell at a glance how much money you have in your wallet, and it's much harder to make mistakes. But Americans seem to have stubbornly resisted that innovation too.

I believe the thread is about evolution.....I didn't see where it had to be specifically Darwinism.
Well then, it seems we can at least agree that Lamarckism shouldn't be taught in schools, right? It's a trivial thing to agree on as, to the best of my knowledge, it hasn't been taught anywhere for at least a century. What I was concerned about was your statement indicating that because Lamarckism can be easily disproved, macro-evolution doesn't happen at all.
In fact, we know that macro-evolution does happen and the only reason creationists make a distinction between micro- and macro-evolution is because the former can actually be demonstrated right in front of them, making it impossible for all but the most stubbornly moronic fanatics to deny. Macro-evolution is of course only micro-evolution plus time, usually just enough time so that it can't be directly observed. Any form of evolution that is directly observed is labelled by creationists as micro-evolution, while they continue to deny any evolution for which we have only DNA, morphological and fossil evidence.

You are going way beyond my remarks.
Was it a joke then, when you asked why Jewish boys were still born with foreskins? Because if you understood anything - anything at all - about Darwinian evolution you would not - could not - ask that question seriously. If what you don't believe in is something that nobody believes in, then your part in this discussion has been a huge waste of time, and your associate degree in biology is not worth the paper its written on. As I wrote above, you don't have to believe it but you do have to know what those who do believe it actually believe.

Both theories have the same end result....change in lineage.
Right, but you must know - I mean, you absolutely must or you should just rip up your biology certificate right now - that Darwin never proposed that acquired characteristics could be inherited? His world-changing discovery was that random inborn variations could be inherited, and if they were useful would spread throughout the population. I mean, how dare you even get involved in this discussion if you don't know that? You don't have to believe it by any means but you should at least have the most basic understanding of what it is you don't believe.

I could just as easily point out that if macroevolution was a fact, beyond any reasonable doubt.... then why aren't Jewish boys born without foreskin. The Jews have been circumcising on the 8th day for how many years? Why do I still have to shave/wax my legs, underarms and bikini?.....
Are you sure you have a qualification in biology? At some point, wouldn't they at least have mentioned the difference between Lamarckism and Darwinism? Or were you sick that day?

Satanus:
Can you put that in your own words?
Ha! That'd be a first. Hooberus almost always blunders into a discussion of evolution with a few pages of copypasta and links to his favourite creationist propaganda sites. There's no real point in debunking them as he doesn't understand them himself so spamminf these threads is the only tactic he has. An argument about evolution just wouldn't be the same without having to scroll past a few pages of recycled drivel from hooberus.

Why I Believe The Bible, A Nuclear Scientist Tells His Story

The Argument From Authority is specious at the best of times, but its flaws become glaringly obvious when it's used in such a manner. The fact that occasionally someone who should know better holds a minority opinion has to be weighed against the fact that the vast majority of that person's peers do not. I would bet a large amount of money that nuclear scientists are actually under-represented in JWism; in fact the one they quote is quite probably the only one. But that's enough for those who are only looking for a little more credibility. Knowing that someone clever believes the same as them is enough to validate their beliefs and indeed, to make them feel clever too.

Even worse - and potentially more dangerous - than those who do what the bible says, believing it to be the word of God, are those who listen to voices in their head, believing them to be the voice of God.
