Its simple: Elders families have to look 'good' at all times no matter what. But when they get home they get the baggy pants on. For your information im a Elders Daughter and you know what comes with that is that you always have to look good. It really is a job looking good for your Elder dad. Im getting tired just talking about it.

How Were You Treated as a Jehovah's Witness if You Had Depression ?
by flipper inmost of us who were in the jehovah's witnesses for some time realize that for years the watchtower society had always discouraged it's rank and file members from going to see therapists, or professional counselors if they had depression, or serious chemical depression.
the watchtower society always told us to go out in service more, do more personal study, be more regular at meetings - and essentially we would lose our depression , and everything would fall right back into place.
the old, " don't worry, be happy " cliche.

quietlyleaving You are right about my username. There are so many pressures that normal daughters of brothers would simply not begin to understand. E.g the pressure to get baptized is starting to frustrate me, going to meetings. Also the guilt of not going to meetings cause of being depressed. I feel bad for not answering up at the meetings.
free2think I know how your feeling too. Being in the religion is like being on a rollercoaster you can be really good but then there are times when you just cant take it anymore. In my opinion as being rasied as a jw if a person wants to get baptized it should be on their own accord and not the elders daughter father to make the choice for her. Because then people start to think what happend with so and so. How could the people there do that to you what a load of aholes.
Nowman Thats sad, but anyway it would have been pretty big of your father to do that. It got your parents out of the jw family fantasy. It's one thing that bugs me is the shunning rule i hate it so much. I feel that i could end up like that. Elders dont like to admit it to themselves that they have huge egos.

NewYork44M you have alot going there for you.
As im an elders daughter in my congregation there is so much pressure put on me to get baptized and to pioneer that along with other stuff going on in my life it has led me to go in to a depressed state in addition to that i have missed alot of meeting and not gone out in the ministry.
It's funny how during our meetings that when we the elder or elders families or elders kids are talked about everyone looks at us to see our reaction to the discussion. And being and elders daughter i give a diplomatic smile and to also not feel so high and mighty of the "high" postion i have supposedly have in the congregation.
