I'm still curious to see what your answer is on white blood cells. According to the society this is a banned fraction, but breast milk contains scads of the stuff. A mother can breastfeed her child one year but if it gets sick with leukemia or an immune disorder she wouldn't be allowed to give a partial transfusion of those same white blood cells. Where is the ****ING SENSE IN THAT!?
The whole fraction business is pharisaical and farcical in the extreme. What part of the bible details the scientific breakdown of blood into allowable and forbidden components?
And you're blind if you think Matthew 12 is a primarily a lesson about the sabbath, if that were the case then the whole chapter would be meaningless to Christians because they are no longer under the obligation to observe the sabbath. The POINT of the whole story was to show that love trumps hidebound observance of the letter of the law.
Dammit people like you get me angry, and I don't even believe in the bible!

Blood
by Aleman ini am getting away for a moment from congacs forum to talk about what i have reaserched about the blood topic.. blood is composed of a liquid called blood plasma and blood cells suspended within the plasma.
the blood cells present in blood are red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.plasma is predominantly water containing dissolved proteins, salts and many other substances; and makes up about 55% of blood by volume.
by far the most abundant cells in blood are red blood cells.

I'm not even going for my parents' sake, in fact I'm not going precisely because it would give them false hope. I don't believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible so it would do me no good to go to an event out of fear of human interpretation of said book.

re: outlawed in the '20s Wasn't that all Rutherford's doing? IIRC he was trying to stamp out C.T. Russell loyalists (hence the vendetta against similar facial hair), kinda like a lion eating the cubs so he can wipe out all genetic lineage of his predecessor.

I knew a couple of guys who grew beards and nothing much happened to them except one of them wasn't allowed to give talks until he shaved it. The other one was from Holland and had the beard when he moved here, he said over there they don't make a big deal out of it and I think the elders here were too perplexed to figure out how to deal with it so they just pretended it didn't exist.

Great arguments, I think I might actually send this to my parents even though we're on a "don't ask don't tell" policy about my rejection of the WT creed.
I don't believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible but the blood argument is impossible to defend even using the scriptures. -

The Problem with Atheism by Sam Harris
by nvrgnbk inthe problem with atheism(this is an edited transcript of a talk given at the atheist alliance conference in washington d.c. on september 28th, 2007).
to begin, id like to take a moment to acknowledge just how strange it is that a meeting like this is even necessary.
the year is 2007, and we have all taken time out of our busy lives, and many of us have traveled considerable distance, so that we can strategize about how best to live in a world in which most people believe in an imaginary god.

I've seen videos of four-year-old muslim kids repeating by rote messages of vile hatred for Jews, but in your view this should be a protected right because it's in the Quran?
Or does the right to inculcate children in belief systems only extend to your particular brand of Christianity? -

I've avoided the atheism moniker so far precisely because of all the associated baggage.
My big beef is with believers who advocate one belief system over another. Believe what you want but DO NOT persist in attempting to influence me or other people into accepting your view, or even bitching about what you do or do not consider acceptable. Believe what you want but shut the hell up.
Religion isn't bad, it's forcing your religious views on others that is evil. This includes your children, BTW. They should be allowed to investigate as many belief systems as they want and settle on whichever one they choose. -

MLM schemes @ the hall, i.e Amway, , etc...
by avishai inanyone get sucked in?
i always thought it was ironic how often they preached against this sort of thing from the platform, then were out in the parking lot trying to sell it to you.
tons of elders defrauding folks this way..

Here's a list of some of the MLM schemes I've encountered/been pressured to join during my life as a witness:
- Trimline (I'd completely forgotten about this one until reading this thread)
- Melaleuca
- Herbalife
- Mary Kay
- ACN
- Tupperware
- Usana
- Electrolux
- Tristar
- Aloette
- those stupid candle parties
- I forget the name of this next one but it had something to do with placing magnets under your mattress
and not really MLM but insidious nonetheless, homeopathic remedies. My mother got duped into this and believes 110% that it's real. -

There are way bigger problems with the biblical flood myth than just beetles. Chief among them is geographical distribution of species and the accompanying fossil records that show those species were there for a long time.
Did god cause all marsupials to traipse over to the middle east to get on an ark and then trek back to Australia after it was all said and done? What about Galapagos tortoises? Sloths?
Or how about the incredibly vast amount of geological evidence against a global flood. And let's not forget that the very laws of physics were supposedly altered 4,000 years ago when god "created" the rainbow by making water droplets refract light for the first time.
The flood story has more holes than a sieve. -

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?
by Black Man ini often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.
