I remember being excited about it because my bethelite uncle was used as a model for one of the illustrations. I forget what page it was but he was a catholic priest of some sort wearing a little black hat standing next to some bald-headed military general (or was it a businessman?) with a big cigar.

Heavy metal
by Godsendconspirator ini have always loved heavy metal music (thrash metal to be more specific).
since heavy metal is usually associated with satan and occult themes many christians and jws in particular stray away from it.
in my teenagehood i was listened to it obsessively until i started studying and got baptized at age 18 and i started listening to other genres.

With all the WT's eschatology and prophetic interpretation, why is there no mention of Islam?
by marmot inyou'd think that the third major abrahamic religion would be of interest to the witnesses and their fanciful interpretation of just about anything written in the bible, especially with the white-hot relevance islam has in current affairs and the middle east.
not only that, islam had a huge influence on european history, with conquering armies and direct control over jehovah's supposed holy city of jerusalem.. american christian fundamentalists trip over themselves trying to connect all the dots in scripture so why hasn't the watchtower society?
laziness?

It still doesn't explain why the crystal ball-gazing geezers in Brooklyn missed the boat completely on Islam's rise to relevance. They used to tie the most mundane scriptures to prophetic realizations like the Anglo-American world power, the creation of the UN, etc.
Islam is kind of a big deal and there's *nothing* on it coming from the WT.

Christopher Columbus makes ISIS look like a bunch of hippies.
by marmot inhere's an excerpt from the account of bartolome de las casas, the priest who accompanied columbus on his conquest of cuba, in his book 'the devastation of the indies':.
"and the christians, with their horses and swords and pikes began to carry out massacres and strange cruelties against them.
they attacked the towns and spared neither the children nor the aged nor pregnant women nor women in childbed, not only stabbing them and dismembering them but cutting them to pieces as if dealing with sheep in the slaughter house.

Here's an excerpt from the account of Bartolome de las Casas, the priest who accompanied Columbus on his conquest of Cuba, in his book 'The Devastation of the Indies':
"And the Christians, with their horses and swords and pikes began to carry out massacres and strange cruelties against them. They attacked the towns and spared neither the children nor the aged nor pregnant women nor women in childbed, not only stabbing them and dismembering them but cutting them to pieces as if dealing with sheep in the slaughter house. They laid bets as to who, with one stroke of the sword, could split a man in two or could cut off his head or spill out his entrails with a single stroke of the pike. They took infants from their mothers’ breasts, snatching them by the legs and pitching them head first against the crags or snatched them by the arms and threw them into the rivers, roaring with laughter and saying as the babies fell into the water, “Boil there, you offspring of the devil!” Other infants they put to the sword along with their mothers and anyone else who happened to be nearby. They made some low wide gallows on which the hanged victim’s feet almost touched the ground, stringing up their victims in lots of thirteen, in memory of Our Redeemer and His twelve Apostles, then set burning wood at their feet and thus burned them alive. To others they attached straw or wrapped their whole bodies in straw and set them afire. With still others, all those they wanted to capture alive, they cut off their hands and hung them round the victim’s neck, saying, “Go now, carry the message,” meaning, Take the news to the Indians who have fled to the mountains. They usually dealt with the chieftains and nobles in the following way: they made a grid of rods which they placed on forked sticks, then lashed the victims to the grid and lighted a smoldering fire underneath, so that little by little, as those captives screamed in despair and torment, their souls would leave them…."
Here's a quote from Michele da Cuneo, a childhood friend of Columbus:
"When I was in the boat, I took a beautiful Cannibal girl and the admiral (Columbus) gave her to me. Having her in my room and she being naked as is their custom, I began to want to amuse myself with her. Since I wanted to have my way with her and she was not willing, she worked me over so badly with her nails that I wished I had never begun. To get to the end of the story, seeing how things were going, I got a rope and tied her up so tightly that she made unheard of cries which you wouldn't have believed. At the end, we got along so well that, let me tell you, it seemed she had studied at a school for whores."
Charming fellow.

B.C. Pastafarian officially loses drivers licence over holy colander
by William Penwell intake a look at this fellow that says it is religious right as a pastafarian to wear his holy colander for his drivers license picture.
opens up the whole debate as to who is the one that determines what appropriate religious head dress is.
i might join this religion myself as it makes as much sense as any other religion.. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-pastafarian-officially-loses-driver-s-licence-over-holy-colander-1.2041499.

Question for the nonbelievers and atheists
by nykid inwhat specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?
was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

Did you ever actually believe the JW fantasy version of "Paradise"?
by Darth Fader The Sequel ini am sure this topic has probably been discussed many times before but,......... i would like reassurance that i am not the only one who gagged every time i heard a jw pontificating on their fantasy version of what "paradise" will be like.
particularly when it comes to the animals.
more specifically, that the animals will all become vegetarians.

Sure did...when I was six.
I distinctly remember telling one of my schoolyard friends that he would be able to ride an alligator to school in paradise.
