I saw quite a bit of poverty in the areas I worked out in field service, particularly among the elderly. But, you know what? I worked in some pretty affluent areas as well and a lot of those people lived like absolute animals. There was no excuse for that. They just were lazy and filthy. I always felt bad for the old people. Sometimes, rather than talking their ears off about the Watchtower magazine, I'd go inside and help them out with things around the house for a while. As far as anybody knew, I was on a return visit with someone. I made up my mind from a young age that I didn't want to end up old and poor like that, just waiting to die. When I'm old I want to be taken care of.

Did you see any sad living conditions in Field Service...?
by Casper inim sure all of us at one time or another witnessed homes that broke our heartshere are a few of mine.
some of the homes i had been invited into out in service really left an impression on me.
call it naive or whatever, it was a real eye opener in some cases.. one in particular that i remember was a poor family with 8 little girls, stair step in age, the oldest no more than 9. this was an rv of the sister i was with.... very nice people, but the living conditions were appalling.

Do you enjoy listening to music from another generation?
by JH insome people only like recent music, maybe because they don't want to identify themselves to an older generation.. often, i'll listen and download music that played when i was a kid, and really enjoy it..

There's no expiration date on good music. I'll listen to anything, if it's good. I don't care when it was made. I've had so many friends that used to go through my records and CDs and making fun of my collection because it had so much "old" stuff in there. Then, I'd turn the tables on them and point out to them how many "new" songs were just rip-offs of old songs. If the "new" artists are listening to the old stuff to get "new" material, what's wrong with going straight to the source and hearing it yourself? I don't mind listening to old stuff if it sounds good and I don't mind saying that the latest "flavor of the week" artist sucks if they do indeed suck.

WTF! my ex came into my place yesterday....

no warning, nothing.
i come home yesterday from work and there's crap strewn all over from the nicknacks and what not she took and all the windows are bare.

My ex left on pretty bad terms when she left, but left me with the baby! LOL Anyway, for a long time after she left, I suspected someone of coming in the house. I thought maybe it was the landlord or something. I'd come home, and something would be out of place, etc., etc. Well, I had my company vehicle being serviced one day and I had the dealership drop me off at the house. I guess she thought I wasn't home. I was in the kitchen washing some dishes and I heard the front door open. It was her and her boyfriend! I was so pissed! Nobody has ever seen a 300 pound man move so fast! I chased them out of the house, hurdled over the railing of the front porch and hit the ground running after them. I called the landlord and immediately had the locks changed. Who knows how often they were comming in the house, doing God-knows-what. Needless to say, I stripped the bed and sprayed it with about a gallon of Lysol! Always, always, ALWAYS change the locks, the alarm codes, your phone number, etc., etc. Change all of your PIN numbers on any of your ATM cards, credit cards and online accounts. I'd even go as far as to have a locking mailbox installed if you don't already have one.

Did anyone ever "Really" stumble you ?
by Casper inthis is one of the things i felt could get really petty in the congregation i attended, sometimes over the top, in my opinion.. one time a group of us sisters went on a shopping trip.
the driver was knocking herself out trying to find some "decent" music on the radio.
finally gave up and put a john mellencamp tape in.

I wasn't really "stumbled", because I always knew what was inherently good or bad and I've always behaved accordingly. But, I definitely lost faith in the organization and its "shepherds" at a relatively young age. I saw elders and other "respected" members of the congregation engage in dishonest and sometimes illegal business practices. I've seen some of those same people behave unethically and cheat business acquaintences out of money or property. I've seen some who beat their wives, abuse alcohol and drugs, watch pornography and just about anything else you can think of get up on the platform and sternly instruct me not to do the very same things that they do in their own lives. I lost my faith in religion. Just because someone tells you that they are God's messenger or that they have the truth, doesn't mean that God feels the same way about them.

I moved to a quiet rural area 10 years ago to get away from the crime in Atlanta. Well, guess what? When all of the people that the criminals rob leave a city, apparently the criminals have to follow their prey. It used to be that the biggest "crimes" around here were committed by a couple of rednecks beating the crap out of each other at the local beer joint on a Friday night. Some call that crime; I call that quality entertainment. Crime is increasing in my once small, quiet town. The house I was renting a few years ago was broken into by some kids. I hate to say it, but sadly most of the crime in my town is being committed by our illustrious immigrant population. Hey! Mexican dudes! If you're gonna rob me at gunpoint, can you at least learn how to do it in English?? We also have the added benefit of being the new home of a couple of New Orleans gangs displaced by Hurricane Katrina. I saw one of these suspected gang members getting arrested for breaking into cars at the local Wal-Mart on Monday. 10 years ago, you could've left your door unlocked in my town. Now, even locks don't help. If the door's locked, they'll kick it in! I guess no matter where you are, if there are more than one person in a given location, there's gonna be crime. My advice? Learn how to kick ass and carry a gun. It works for me.

I moved about 50 miles away when I left home. It was great. Nobody's bothered me yet. When JWs come to my door, I usually don't answer. I let them stand there and wait.

Field circus a one way street job
by White Dove inwhen going in fs, i always felt like it was a one way street or conversation because i was there to argue and defend the contents of the wt and a!
but none of us were allowed to consider as a possibility the other person's arguments.
our job was to turn their minds around but the people on the other side made more sense than i did.

I always was willing to listen to other people's opinions. As far as anybody knew, I was kicking ass in the field service spreading the word! Ha Ha. One time, I had a 3 hour discussion with an Indian man who happened to be a professor of philosophy. It was an awesome discussion. But, had anybody known that I actually listened to what he had to say, I probably would have gotten in trouble. The heading at the top of the Watchtower should be "Close-minded Simpletons Pushing Magazines and Lunacy for Over 100 Years".

as i am not interested in downloading audio files that will permanently be on my computer, i would like to see a pdf file scan of the whole magazine in its entirity.
notice that the study articles are available as mp3 files, which does little good if one wants to look at it at their own pace and tear the material apart.. notice the theme: doing good.

How about "Serve the Watchtower until you Puke!" That's a good article title.
