has anybody noticed in many recent watchtowers that christ is now said to have "turned his attention to the earth in 1914.".

unlike the 60's they do not say christ "came" in 1914. the "proclaimers book " p137 says the bible students came to discern that "christ did not return, (even invisibly), in 1914.".

the way is now paved.

i know of several of my friends who have been disfellowshipped for years and see no need to come back.

they tell me the dont miss the meetings at all.

one of the main reasons they dont come back is because of the way they were treated before they were df.

Only after the disfellowshipped and their families do away with the organization. The only reason the disfellowshipping works is due to social shunning and snubbing by former friends and relatives, not due to religious sanctions. The religious sanctions are actually a pleasure to deal with. The social and business sanctions are not so easy for some.

Me and my family have done away with the organization. Every Witness on the planet could be whisked off to Mars tomorrow and we wouldn't notice or do one thing different with our day.

Choosing to associate with Jehovah's Witnesses is for people who like pain and aggravation.

over the last two years, as i moved back to the catholic church, i have been confronted with objections by several people regarding certain catholic teachings.

these concerns are almost always the same, and are founded in mythology created by the watchtower society, and some evangelical denominations.

god can and does use fallible men to do infallible things?

The Witness meetings about the disfellowshipping policy I attended often included a comparison of policies of other religions and the most common comparison was to the Catholic religion. The Witnesses told me that disfellowshipping was common in other religions and the Catholics called theirs excommunicating.

I didn't find out until I was in my 40's that excommunicating just means the Catholic can't take communion but they are not shunned or disrespected on a social or personal level like the Witness disfellowship policy requires.

And ya don't get excommunicated, that I know of, for smoking a cigarette or voting or having sex. I have numerous friends who are of the Catholic faith and I like them all and I respect them a lot. The Catholics do a good job here with operating hospitals, retirement homes, and schools. The Witnesses are mean, they snub and shun and they don't operate one community service. The Witnesses are selfish, self serving, and in my opinion, in the light of day, they look very foolish knocking on doors and criticizing good people like the Catholics for work that the Witnesses refuse to do themselves.

well hello all....yes...i'm a newbie.... and yep...i am an inactive witness.

haven't been to a meeting in a while.

my entire family are witnesses, actually had a relative that proclaimed to be of the 144000...thats how deep....this is third generation witnesses here in this family.

In my life, whenever I find myself struggling over business, religion, or personal perceptions, I've always found simple answers and peace if I carefully examine my premises. I was trying to live a rational life with irrational core beliefs. That didn't work very well.

In financial analysis we list our assumptions and assign each and every one a percentage weight factor and a percentage value. Any deal I go into has to fly with a zero weight and zero value on all assumption lines. Try that with religion. Try that with Witness religion.

Take the fear that God is going to end the world. What are the tangible, rational, objective, facts that prove the end of the world will actually happen? List them on the left side of a spreadsheet.

Now, on the right side of the spreadsheet, list the assumptions (premises) needed to support the concept that God will end the world.

Mine looks something like this . . .

LEFT~~~~ Rational objective facts: Zero

RIGHT~~~~ Assumptions:
1. There is a God
2. God communicates with people
3. God uses the Bible
4. The Bible is God's communication
5. The Bible is written in code
6. God owns a book printing business in the United States
7. God communicates with the book company writers
8. The book company writers are not inspired
9. The book company writers must be treated as though they are inspired
10. The seven trumpets of Revelation were the seven Jehovah's Witness District assemblies from 1922 to 1928, starting with Cedar Point, Ohio and ending with Detroit, Michigan
11. Every Bible story, pattern, and parable has a type and an anti-type
12. The Watch Tower Society will be right even though they have never been right once before in their entire history

Now, assign a zero to each assumption and give me Vegas odds that there will ever be an Armageddon:-)

well, the elders are coming over tomorrow for a shepherding call with me and my wife.

i am sure they will discuss my low hours in the field ministry and how i am not doing everything i could be doing.

for my wife's sake, i will be good and mostly "smile and nod".

"Paradise Lost" and "JWs in Divine Purpose" -- PDFs!

i received a request for pdfs of from paradise lost to paradise regained (1958) and jehovah's witnesses in the divine purpose (1959).

these are pdfs that have been around for a few years, so some here may already have them.

the only difference is these have bookmarks added to them to aid in finding info quickly.
