By twisted words they try to disort the facts.
They say they have not been a UN member (which is true).
And they try to make it look as if there has been a change and that everything was okay when they joined (because they needed the library card and could not get into the library without it which is untrue).
And least they thank the apostates for bringing this up. :-)

Visit From Elders
by laurelin init's been awhile since i've been on here.
due to death in the family, chicken pox in children and other nasty things.. i posted here awhile ago about things i had found the unsettled me.
i was due to have a visit from two elders and a lot of you gave me lots of help and encouragement.. well, the two elders visited and i have to admit that it was nothing like i expected.. they sat down, and told me straight away that there was nothing i could say or ask that would hurt me.

The Society itself candidly acknowledged some responsibility for the hopes raised by the 1975 expectation. The 1980 Yearbook, on pages 30-31, mentioned a talk given at the 1979 District Conventions, by the title of "Choosing the Best Way of Life." The talk "acknowledged the Society's responsibility for some of the disappointment a number felt regarding 1975." What did this talk say?
The March 15, 1980 Watchtower article "Choosing the Best Way of Life" contains, on pages 17-18, a partial text of the talk. It said:
quote:
In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man's existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.
In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: "If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." In saying "anyone," The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah's Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date. -

Watchtower Fallout
by gitasatsangha ini'm trying to come up with a list of various non-jw and russellite groups.
it's already pretty much established that the jw claim of being unified is hogwash, but this information should be itneresting.
if anyone has anything not here, or more information please post it.

I must admit that this WT offshots have always fascinated me. I went to a Bible Students Convention once when I was an active JW! I subscribed to the German Dawn and had a phone call with Epiphania Bible Students, too.
I am no longer religios (do not know if I ever was) but this small groups fascinate me somehow. -

Did you ever catch an Elder doing something "Un-theocratic"?
by tazmaniac ini remember finding 2 week old lottery tickets in a elders car i was working on.
he said they must have been from the previous owner.
he owned the car for over a year and a half and the lottery tickets were just a little over two weeks old.

Elders stepping down - what got your goat?
by eyeslice inmany here formerly served as elders.
what trivia/humiliation got your goat about how you were treated as an ex-elder?.
the obvious is the cermonial handing in of the elder's book - "you have been stripped of your rank and are no longer worthy of such a fine book".

My father found a cool way to step down as an Elder: he threw the Elder's manual on the table at the place where the CO sat and said (concerning some incidents): "This behavior is satanic." Then he left.
I would have loved to see the face of the CO and the other Elders. ;-)
I used to be a MS. I stepped down and ceased to attend meetings and after month I returned the keys to get rid of them. They were suprised that I still had them. -

Are you going to the memorial
by lillost ini was asked by my mother today "are you going to the memorial this year".
i declined most graciously and said thank you for thinking of me, and although i haven't been for the last eight years i thought no more of the ritual invitation.. then suddenly it dawned on me that my mothers response was quite abrupt and something along the lines of "well i have done my christian duty by asking you".
it was if she was literally washing the blood from her hands and she had tried to save me yet again.. has anyone else experienced this my mother has always talked to me with all civility about the "truth", i just wondered if there is new counsel now in how to deal with daughters and family that have fallen by the wayside.. appreciate your help.
