okay, just to re-introduce myself, i was raised in the truth, regular pioneered for years, and am a member in good standing with my congregation.

i have just recently been shocked to realise that i actually have some doubts about the truth.

it helps for me to focus on one point at a time, and to write down my thoughts in a logical sequence.

Hi Hotchocolate, your experience seems quite similar to mine in some ways, different issues but same nagging doubts.

The whole prophet thing has never been an issue for me, it has existed long before Russell and transcends cultures and religions, and historically not all prophets claimed to be inspired.

What has me in a spin is the flood, global or not, evolutionary/creative process and most importantly the actual identification of Jesus and Michael.

The last one being the thing that really blows my mind and was really the first thing that got me thinking. There really is no categorical proof that jesus is Michael but it fits if you take Jesus deity away.

I have said before that alot of this stuff is a IKEA furniture and we simply dont know, but to be dogmatic is crazy and to me more serious than looking for an end, one affects your life choices , the other affects who you actually worship. So if your going to redefine a God you had better have your facts are water tight and they just dont seem to be. Emotionally it feels weird to write that because I "feel" like Jesus has been created but that is an emotion, I cannot not be certain mentally as there is no absolute proof.

I still feel that there is no guy behind the curtain, I dont think the GB conspires for power or financial gain, I think they have got it wrong from time to time, but so have I.

For the first time I feel like a have a moral and spiritual obligation to make sure of things and to really search out what I believe, our generation asks why and how alot.

This forum is not the ideal place to do that, sure you find out some amazing facts and some crazy stories but no answers on which to build a belief system.

I pioneered for 11 years and I can safely say it helped get me in the position Im in today and I look back over those years with a smile.

Search but dont get bitter.

Egyptians pulled the brain out through the nose and thought the brain was the very thing that killed you, this contrasts considerably with the procedure of blood transfusions. Blood transfusions were attempted for hundreds of years but were really successfully carried out unitl the victorian era and were 'mainstreamed" during world war 1, which I guess is slightl out of that era. But at all times the basic principles and ideas were accurate, they simply didnt understand that a) human and animal blood was not compatible and b) different human blood types.

My point being that whole blood transfusions are rare and quite risky and old technology.

Whole blood is not stored, so if you are a recipient of whole blood you are taking in blood that has not been screened and as I have said there is a very real risk of fatal disease associated with this option.

Further, medicine is pursuing alternatives because of the costs but also the risks associated with whole blood/packed red blood cells.

Also, I was not inferring that you were lying with your statement, however it was quite an emotive comment and mental picture. A compound fracture of the femur would be the most rare of compound fractures due to the sheer size of the bone. And just because its a compound fracture does not mean it would necessarily tear the major blood vessels of the leg and if it did, the person could be dead in a couple of minutes, particularly if the fracture ruptures the femoral artery, so a blood transfusion aint gunna save them. So i wasnt saying what you said was wrong, just incredibly rare and emotive.

I agree with you, however, I am sure I have not put forward any opinions without proof.

I have presented the local media opinion, the Governments opinion and my medically trained opinion and havent said that anyone in the medical community has it wrong.

This thread is entitled "New Aussie Blood card released last night= It will make you sick! Shock". I think this is a really ignorant comment, why will it make you sick? The majority of the community doesnt have an education of this type. JW or not, everyone should look at medical choices. The whole blood issue is an emotive one. When I moved from Australia to the UK I couldn't believe how much aggression there was in the field over the issue. But I found the people attacking the witness view of blood were quite ignorant thinking that blood is the "save all".

Its an option.

i heard from a "brother" whose daughter is in bethel, that his daughter told him that there will be 'new light" released in january pertaining to "adjustments in understanding" of the generation doctrine.. does anybody know what this may be about?

or what the change might be?.

TD did make some interesting points, but they were hardly exhaustive, however, he did put forward a researched and considered opinion. I don’t think I have lost the bet just yet.
And yes I was a little tongue in cheek with the GB comment, you should have know that!

Blood transfusions are a Victorian technology, actually even older , I think the early attempts were the 15 or 16 century, it wasn’t until the 30’s that they worked out that it could be separated, so my statement is true and accurate.
You said “The new generation of oxygen carrying blood substitutes primarily duplicates the function of red cells”.

At this point there are no oxygen carrying blood substitutes that aren’t derived from bovine or human hemoglobin, I know there was some trials with Perfluorocarbon some years back but I don’t think it has been approved.

You said “ Witness CHILDREN have died from injuries as mundane as a breaking a leg when they fell off a skateboard”. Plural? More than one? I doubt this but welcome proof of such a statement. It seems highly improbable. The rest of your points are true.

I know the statistics per million etc but the reality is in America alone an average of 23 people per year contract HIV from blood transfusions, that’s not mentioning all of the other nasty things that can happen. I don’t care how you twist it, if you take blood, HIV is still a very real risk. I say educate the crowds and educate yourselves regardless of what the WTBTS say.

You haven't realy made a point yet, your personifying evolution which is a classic creationist flaw.

Evolution is a process, not a reason, it does not have a purpose.

Your body even now is evolving and mutating, if that mutation gives you an advantage, it will live on, if not, its gone.

Why do you think before large scaled travel humans in the far southern hemispheres were small and very dark and those in the far north were blonde and fair?

Answer that and you will begin to understand how evolution works.

Incorrect PEC, Thats was a message to Penny 2 as I had reached a certain point of nirvana, this site helped me somewhat, however, it is a good place to debate and I enjoy that. I am not so simple as to enjoy stirring up S*%T as you put it.

And whole blood transfusions are down as is the use of blood to produce various proteins, most of the worlds EPO is now made from non blood products, of course this is entirely an economic decision but its happening.

Blood transfusions are a victorian technology and are slowly being replaced with new technology, why is that so hard to accept?

Rabbit, I was not going to debate this subject on an emotional level as I am not qualified to, and Im not threatened by an alternative opinion. If the poster feels that strongly and has experienced something traumatic that has helped form that opinion what can one do other than empathize?

I think medical research is influencing everyone including trained medical professionals. If you read my other posts on blood I have a religious point of view but I am not discussing that. I am putting forward a secular non JW apologist opinion.

Whole blood transfusions are on the way out.

One thing I want to comment on is the attitudes sometimes demonstrated on this site, In the threads above I am personally attacked for having an opinion that differs from others and twice have been told to go back under my rock.

Is a thread supposed to go like this.

Seriously I dont think the new card is "shocking", I dont think whole blood transfusions are great but I acknowledge I have never been confronted with a choice and yes I could change my mind under pressure or I could just change my mind.
There are loads of alternatives and I hope me or anyone on this forum is never in a position where they need a blood transfusion.
