russian church welcomes shutdown of "moscow church of scientology".
moscow, july 1, interfax - the russian orthodox church has welcomed a ruling by the russian supreme court which yesterday upheld the legality of a shutdown of the "church of scientology of moscow".
"the upholding by the supreme court of the legality of the shutdown of the so-called church of scientology is seen as an important precedent demonstrating the state's determination not to recognize as religious those organizations that use people's religious feeling for malign purposes, " russian orthodox church spokesman vakhtang kipshidze told interfax-religion.the ruling in the scientologists' case is not a breach of the religious freedom since "it was proved in court that the very activity of this organization is an affront to human freedom as such," kipshidze said.the russian orthodox church regularly comes into contact with people whose membership in totalitarian sects left them deeply wounded spiritually and mentally, ruined their lives and happiness, the spokesman said.
Today at meeting my mother and another sister were talking about how crazy and ridiculous scientologists and Mormons were. Saying things like "how could you believe that stuff?", or "why would anyone live like that?"
I just don't understand how people can be so blind and hypocritical!! I bet the Mormons and scientologists say the same things about jws.

I have a friend who's going to an international convention in Amsterdam in a few weeks. It really seems like there's a lot of weird strict rules about it. I would never go to one, I hate planned trips.
Did you like Finland though? I always wanted to go there.

I thought it was so strange that there was really nothing at all about preaching. It was all about remaining loyal to the org. I guess they finally realize that they aren't getting much growth and are really focusing on keeping those who still believe brainwashed. The videos disturbed me greatly. We're people supposed to find them encouraging?? To me they just emphasized how sad and hard the life of a jw is, you can never be good enough for the watchtower. :(

Well I just got back from 3 days in hell, and geez was this convention strange or what? Im sure someone's probably made a topic about this already but I can't believe that there weren't any new releases besides the movies. Has that ever happened before? It seemed like this years convention was really focused on Armageddon, there was nothing about going out in service or experiences that people had like usual. Now my crazy mother is going on about how our message is going to change soon and we won't have to preach anymore in the great tribulation. Everyone who doesn't hide in the stupid basement will be doomed.
I feel really strange now, it boggles my mind that people will actually believe this stuff. The manipulation in the videos was so obvious! This cult is so crazy, it kind of scares me sometimes. Now everybody is expecting the great tribulation to be sooner than ever, what will the watchtower do when it doesn't come? Have any of you guys been to the convention? What did you think about it?

ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.
my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?
Thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement. I would go to the doctor but I've realized that taking pills won't solve the underlying issues. I went to an eating disorder clinic 2 years ago and got put on too much prozac, it made me really impulsive and I did some crazy stuff. That's why my parents won't take me to the doctor. I've thought about getting some help again but I know they will just put me on a bunch of pills :(

Wasaneleder once: I know what you mean, I've been to the mental hospital ( aka prison) quite a few times already and it was horrible. I don't joke around with that stuff anymore.

Thanks everybody, I will try the exercise ( though it's so hot where I live). My parents told me that I can only live with them if I go to all the meetings an out in service 3 times a week, those are the house rules apparently. I can't legally move out yet, so I'm forced to be a jw. It irritates me that children have no rights when it comes to religion. :(
Anyways, I'm trying to look on the bright side. I haven't had any success with my aunt, (we aren't close and she's busy all the time) but it's OK. I've realized that I can't rely on my family members, I have to be independent. I'm thinking of moving somewhere ive never been before and starting a new life. :)

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try to stay more positive. I don't have any non jws friends or relatives I can talk to, but coming on here always makes me feel a little better.
I would like to point out that I'm not going to do anything that would make my parents angrier than they already are. I don't want to be seen as rebellious because that's not what it is at all. I'm trying to lay low for now until I graduate and get my life in order.
