The court of public opinion also holds sway. hopefully, a better informed public won't see witnesses as such harmless door knockers now.

The problem with holding religions to account for their crimes.
by smiddy inlately we have seen governments from all parts of the western word challenge religious institutions on a variety of issues .
such as tax status , charitable status , child sex abuse by religious institutions , etc.etc.. just how effective these investigations are or will be only time will tell.. their are many factors that will influence the outcome.. politicians make up the government , human beings make up the politicians , and the politicians have their own personal beliefs .
and the electorates these politicians represent are made up of people with their own religious preferences ,and the politicians need to keep in favour of their electorate to remain in office.. and lobbyists whether religious or otherwise do influence outcomes .an elected politician wants to hold onto his seat , his job , his income.. the australian royal commission into institutions of child sexual abuse gives me hope that these concerns will be addressed .. i can only hope so , not just for the jehovah`s witness children who have been abused , but for all children who have been abused ,by all institutions secular and religious .. smiddy.

Had to go to a JW funeral yesterday.
by Crazyguy init's amazing how ones shun former witnesses or faders.
a couple of people said high to me that know i do not go but the rest no.
but the main reason i post is how ridiculous the funeral talk was.

My husband and I are so traumatized by shunning that we are not having funerals at all. I won't give those hypocrites the satisfaction of turning up at my funeral for one last "good witness!" My non witness family are going to have a barbecue instead...sounds great! -

I dont suppose that watching "The Titians" Denzel Washington counts? Loved the movie still l no clue why they run around all padded up and stop and start so much. In Australia I love cricket England just beat us in the ashes...and Rugby (our version of football) New Zealand just beat us in the Bledizoe cup.... Unfortunately some of the persons I know on disability are survivors of the WT Institutional Child Abuse failures. Denied support and counseling they have been psychologically damaged to the point they are unable to function normally in society (or anywhere really). But!!!!! as the cult likes to say "nothing the new system wont fix!" so what if Satans system picks up the bill for now it all belongs to Jah anyway!!! Sick cult reasoning.... -

The conventions and the memorial are a pain in the butt for me.
by John Aquila ini can imagine those of you who have a spouse that is not awake and how hard it must be.
i have a 90 year old mom who is a jw and still puts in 12 hrs a month in field service.
the brothers and sisters are always picking her up for conventions, meetings and memorials and as much as i try to avoid them, there are times when i just cant.

What makes me cross is the fact that witnesses will take, take, take blood fractions..........from worldly people but wont give blood. surely if they are Jehovahs chosen/clean people they should be prime candidates for giving blood (a loving act) in Australia blood donors are not paid.....And as a nurse (and ex JW) it takes alot of blood to make fractions!!!! Its a religion/cult of entitlement no love required......... -

Jehovah’s Witnesses face child sexual-abuse investigation in Australia - Washington Post article
by defender of truth inof the religious and nonreligious groups being investigated, the jehovahs witnesses are exceptional, experts say.. in a converted office in downtown sydney, the organizations doctrines and practices are being parsed by lawyers, victims and journalists, providing rare insight into one of the christian worlds most conservative churches.. .
the church, which was founded in pennsylvania during the 1870s to promote a 1st-century interpretation of the bible, has emerged as the least able or willing to deal with sexual abuse within its ranks, said anne cossins, an associate law professor at the university of new south wales and an expert in sex crimes who is a consultant for the inquiry.. .
i find their approach to the issue and victims extraordinarily bizarre almost medieval, she said in an interview.. .

Cha Ching!
Even tho they talk to people out in service, they could NOT even THINK about discussing it with me... It literally scared them out of their socks! It was as tho they had seen a ghost!
Same experience very disconcerting!

Welcome Lostwun! Be patient, Troubled Mind makes it plain that she was leaving an organisation not her husband...Including a quote illustrating similarities of high control cults
When your own thoughts are forbidden, when your questions are not allowed and our doubts are punished, when contacts with friendships outside of the organization are censored, we are being abused, for the ends never justify the means. When our heart aches knowing we have made friendships and secret attachments that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger. When we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, we are in a cult… If there is any lesson to be learned it is that an ideal can never be brought about by fear, abuse, and the threat of retribution. When family and friends are used as a weapon in order to force us to stay in an organization, something has gone terribly wrong.”
― Deborah Layton, Seductive Poison: A Jonestown Survivor's Story of Life and Death in the People's TempleMy husband left before me (it took me quite along time to catch up and some counselling and he had to be very patient and discreet) and despite my fears he actually became a more balanced chilled kinder persons who I come to understand loved me unconditionally no religious tags attached. All that fear around "good and evil" black and white thinking and "us and them" paralyzes you. Despite the threats of "where else will you go?" terrible consequences if you leave. from large witness family.... my husband and I have still got strong moral base are not drug addicts or alcoholics.....there is a good life possible post cult hang in there... Steve Hassan a leading expert on cults information at JWVICTIMS. ORG also has a good example of The Bite Model 'Behavior,Information, Thoughts and Emotions helps understand how abusive Jw are and the difficulty leaving....
