Who or what is to blame for the Newtown CT shooting?
by BreathoftheIndianNose inif events like the recent school shooting in newtown are to be avoided from here on out, we must understand who or what is to blame.
there is a reason that it happend, maybe it was simple or maybe it was very complex, but this didn't just simply happen.
a series of events transpired that inspired or even just allowed adam lanza to commit this terrible atrocity.

I agree on the population density idea. The Scandinavian countries have been put forth as an example of the way the US should be but Finland for example has slightly less than 5 and a half million people, strict gun control, socialized medicine, free education, and a low population density and yet they have still had a few issues of mass shootings.
There is something much deeper and more pervasive than what kind of weapon was used at work here.

Your earliest doubt?
by Apognophos inthis might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).

I remember at a very early age(single digits at least) that I couldn't wrap my mind around the "Jehovah's been here forever and had no beginning" thing. My thought was if the earth was only 6000 years old then what was J. doing for all that time before?
Was he just sitting around jerking off for a killion trillion years? Who knows?

Yes. I work in a hospital and have to take it unless I want to wear a mask everywhere.

A little update on my family
by sooner7nc ina few of you may remember that my wife had a kidney transplant early last year.
since then the kidney has been incredible, giving her a new lease on life.
it's really been good to see the light in her eyes that i had missed for quite a long time.. the counterpoint to this good news is the problems we have had with our son coltin.

Coltin had a vesocostomy done this past Friday at Cooks in Fort Worth. They put in a stoma in his belly button using a piece of his small intestine and attached it to his bladder so that he can catheterize there instead of the other nameless and painful place. We brought him home on Monday night and he's resting kind of comfortably (Lortabs and XBox).

OK here goes.
(1) Magazine size is a straw man. If you are skilled enough to brush your teeth then you are skilled enough to quickly swap out mags on virtually any weapon. (Look up Clint Smith @Gunsite on Youtube for his video on speedloading a singleshot shotgun for home defense)
(2) Tie gun ownership to home insurance. Pay more if you want guns. For renters make renters insurance mandatory.
(3) Extremely stiff penalties for parents that allow their children to gain access to their guns and then commit any crime even the most minimal .
(4) Mandatory gun education for not only gun enthusiasts but everyone.
(5) Outlaw "Here comes Honey Boo Boo" cause if that shit hasn't generated a couple of shooting sprees by now then I say that we have dodged a major bullet.
