My most embarrassing moment happened about 12 years ago while working at Circuit City. It was a quiet day and a bunch of us were standing around the counter chatting. One of our coworkers had just recently returned from taking some time off because his mother had passed away was also hanging out us. The department phone rang and I walked over and picked up and it was the girlfriend of the guy who's mother just passed away. I told her to hold on a second, put my hand over the mouth peace and yelled over to the group, "Gabrielle, your mom is on the phone." I was incredibly embarrassed! Fortunately he wasn't offended and accepted my many apologies. Later that day he actually joked with me that it would have been a very long distance call. ~IMM

WTWizard,
Perhaps you have not read the entire series of posts in this topic. I can assure you that studying to become a JW is not an option for me. There is nothing they can say or do those would ever give me one inkling of desire to become a JW. I would never even consider using the word "temptation" in regards to anything they say or do. There is absolutely nothing tempting about their message.
I am appalled by the way they treat those who do not share their same beliefs, especially ones who have left the organization.
I find their arrogance of being in the "truth" rather absurd and pretentious.
I think that every mother and father who let their children die due to medical restrictions based on religion should be charged with manslaughter and sent to jail.
I will never belong to an organization that pretects those that do not deserve to be protected.
I will not belong to any organization that considers women inferior to men.
.....and SO many more!

Sadly, I'm sure she is probably schizophrenic due to her years as a dub.

Thank you everyone for your comments and concerns. I should have identified SFF as my girlfriend in my original post so that I did not create extra concern. But, now you know!
Like I mentioned earlier, this was my first visit to a Kingdom Hall. It was actually quite funny because this morning was fairly nice and then as we were heading to the KH it started pouring down rain and we were getting thunder and lightening. The rain came down so hard that the stream behind the KH was getting pretty full and water was streaming down the streets like a small river. It felt like a sign that going to KH was WRONG!
I was seriously frustrated right from the very beginning. The visiting speaker opened up the meeting talking about how 1 out of every 5 children in the world go to bed hungry. This is very sad and true. He went on to speak about "the only true refuge is spiritual". He then started talking about how all the hunger in the world is a "sign". How can there be hunger in modern times? I immediately started thinking that well if they would get off their butts and hand out food instead of literature then they would be giving back and truly helping those who need help. A Watchtower Magazine won't help a starving child. Unless of course it is used to start a fire to cook food.
The speaker left the KH when he finished his talk. Sadly, I was hoping to ask him the following question: If you could help ONE hungry child and you could only give him/her ONE thing, would it be a NWT or food? He kept emphasizing the fact that people only need spiritual refuge to get through life. Sadly, I'm sure he would have chosen to give the child an NWT.
Then there was the new light ! Nothing else really to say about that since it is a hot topic on the boards today. I can at least say I was present for "new light". Oh wait, isn't there new light ever week?
I also found it interesting how during the 2nd half of the meeting it was an open question and answer discussion. Everyone was participating, some more eager than others. I couldn't help but wonder if they all felt like they would score points each time they spoke. Do you need a certain amount of points to reserve your homesite in paradise on earth?
Some of my favorite lines to come out of today's meeting:
- "Outright Demon Attack!"
- "Worldly Counselors"
- "Don't rely on resources of the world"
- "We will become spiritually dull if we don't rely on our own."
- "Jehovah's only visual organization"
One of the songs said something about licking dust. Sounds yummy!
I was also pleased to see that there were only about 40 people in attendance. The fewer the better! It was so hard for me to keep my mouth shut.
Another thunderstorm is rolling through now and I am apparently seeing a bunch of new light! Take care all! ~IMM

I have the best girlfriend in the whole world. She is in the process of fading and I will love her and support her through these difficult times. She was raised as a witness and unfortunately did not have a choice. I have no fears of her changing her mind and going back. I am doing this by choice just to have a better understanding of her family. This is also the 1st time she has gone in over a year as well. So, it is also hard for her. :(

What my girlfriend failed to tell me until last night was that this "meeting" will be 2 HOURS LONG! I think she withheld that information on purpose....

.....and my last! I decided to take in my first meeting today in an effort to better understand my girlfriend's family. To be honest, I am not looking forward to this at all. I know most all the people I am going to meet are nice and mean well. I just can't help but be disgusted by how JW's treat any who do not share their views. I will post about my experience later today! I hope everyone has a great day!
