It's funny that Jehovah's Witnesses have pretty much Googlebombed themselves. (A Google bomb involves linking to a site with derogatory text (like "crazy cult" for Scientologists) to get that site to rank for that phrase. (Please don't do this to the Watchtower sites because the links might actually help their sites rank somewhat.) However, their hateful speech and the fact that they put the term "mentally diseased" in their version of the Bible has made them closely associated with that term, more than any other religion. Just do a Google search for "mentally diseased" to see what I mean. It's also interesting to do a search for the phrase mentally diseased on Twitter in addition to the hashtag #mentallydiseased.

"Mentally diseased" article to be published in The Independent tomorrow

as a parting gift to you all before i take a much needed break from this forum, i thought you would be pleased to know that the independent, a leading uk newspaper, will be publishing a piece on the "mentally diseased" watchtower article in tomorrow's edition.. i would like to thank everybody who has assisted the journalist, jerome taylor, in his investigation.. best wishes to all of you,.

Census / online survey idea - thoughts please...
by cedars ini've been thinking about the recent developments in the uk following the "apostates = mentally diseased" article in the july 15th edition of the watchtower.
to provide a bit more background, a forum member named amelia has recently had a meeting with uk police officers who subsequently took a copy of the article for their records.
they agreed that the content could potentially incite people to hatred against disaffected witnesses, and the copy is now on file with the uk police in case there are any future incidents of hateful acts against "apostates", including violence or even stalking.. i am working on a press release to make the public more aware of the idealogical oppression being meted out by the society on those who oppose them, both inside and outside the organization.

I think it is a great idea. I have several blogs where I would be willing to place a banner. I don't think that the survey would be very scientific, but just having a number of any kind would be helpful. We could also get a general idea of the proportions of apostates inside verses outside the organization and the general attitudes and beliefs of those who are affected.
