here is the article http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/world-affairs/2012/06/secrets-and-lies-have-no-place-when-dealing-child-abuse.
here are some quotes.. "jim mccabe, a lawyer for the jehovah's witness congregation, said that they plan to appeal the decision, contending that kendrick was just a member of the north fremont congregation, not a leader or pastor.
he said: "this is a tragic case where a member of a religious group has brought liability on the group for actions he alone may have taken."".

He said: "This is a tragic case where a member of a religious group has brought liability on the group for actions he alone may have taken.""
This has been mentioned in dozens of other news article, generally without any comment. However, this article had this to say as a response.
"Had the secrecy around Kendrick's 2004 conviction not been put in place, that might have been a semi-valid point - demonising a whole faith and community because of individual incidents is absolutely not what this is about. That said, it's the idea that a church-wide policy enforced the silence that is so disturbing. Traumatic as this case will certainly have been for many involved, part of me can't help hoping that it sets a precedent and we see many more like it come to light, until every institution, religious or otherwise, understands that hiding things like this is much, much worse than exposing them - for everyone."

It's fun to read the comments and get the perspective of some atheists, who usually have a better understanding of the harm that can come from religion.
have been looking but cannot see anything.... hope they do before it's old news.... oz.
I hope this will be an embarrassment for the officials who let the prosecution of the Watchtower die because "it wasn't in the public interest".

I wanted to point out that you can set up rss feeds to post automatically to your Twitter account. This could be a great way to post articles from XJW blogs and websites. This isn't suitable for everyone, but it could be pretty helpful for some. Twitterfeed.com and dlvr.it are good services for this. Yahoo Pipes is good for merging and editing RSS feeds.
There are also some easy ways to increase your followers, especially if you don't care who you follow. If you just follow people, many will follow back. You can always unfollow those who don't after a week or so. Twiends.com is a great place to go to get extra followers. You earn credits by following people which are used to reward others for following you. I wouldn't recommend using the paid options. The free option works good by itself.
i started a fb page hashtags for jw issues.

we can discuss/ suggest strategies for using twitter to our best advantage.
Good idea. I signed up. Twitter is one of the best tools for advertizing news stories like this.

We may want to like and tweet this article so they will be more likely to do a longer follow up article.

my wife asked me if i believe that christ came to power in 1914. sadly this question shows how little she knows even about her own religion as she knows the heart of my problems with the society start with the 607 bc debacle.
obviously no 607 means no 1914. alas....the conversation eventually morphed and it got to the point where i decided to ask her a point blank question.
what would it take to get you to realize that your religion is false?
It's a difficult situation, but you got your wife to admit and verbalize an absurd position. If you give it some time, it may start to bother her.

It's good that we are talking about this now. We never know when a JW related news story will go viral. It pays to be prepared so we can help it out at short notice.
