OHHHHHHHHHH I just loved this one. Brought back to mind the time when my sons were going door to door as young teens. I admit I regret that I ever brought them into this mindset. Anyways, they told me of these 2 friends of theirs who would work together and when they would go up to the door they would make a fake knocking gesture at the door. It appeared to the older ones in the car group that they were actually knocking. Keep the faith friends!! LMAO on that one.

It's really sad when you have no support from the cong on issues so emotionally charged, especially at such a young impressionable age. Believe me, the wts loves to getinto your head when you are young. Sadly , they got into your head on the wrong note with your brother's case. Now that you are older and are making decisions on your life for yourself, look around you at all the other witnesses around you while you are still attending. Are they really HAPPY? Do you want your new husband to blame you later in life for having dragged him into this ? Do you really love him, is he your soul mate? You still have time to make choices that will effect you and him, before you bring children into the same sitution you were in as a child. All in all, welcome to the forum.....

Any Old TImers remember Awake (early 1960's) saying JW's could vote ?
by ShirleyW inb-deserters post reminded me of something that was posted quite some time ago, matter of fact, it could've been posted on tishies board, if some of us here remember her website.
a poster on her website quoted the exact date of an awake magazine going back to the early 1960's which clearly stated that jw's could vote if they wanted to, conscious was not mentioned in the article !!.
i went down to my mother's basement, looked up the exact date that was mentioned, and sure enough there it was in plain black and white, jw's had the vote!!

I can't remember what year it was, but there was infromation which pertained to being able to vote along non-political lines,ie, local tax issues, moneys for roads, schools, just so long as they wern't politically connected. Who cares now,eh? I voted in 04 for the wrong man anyways. It doesn't matter who yoou vote for, the big money people in this country will always control....

Question on fading
by ldrnomo inmy wife and i have been staying away from meetings for almost a year now and i was wondering what everyone thinks about taking the next step, which would be going to another kh out of the circuit the cong we went to is in and having the publisher cards sent there and then going for two or three times to the new cong and then just stop.
we are thinking that will give the elders an out because they can get rid of our inactive cards and the next cong won't know us that well so won't really care.. as a former elder and po, we are well known in the area we live so many in the area are wondering what's going on with us and if we go to another cong.
that might make them feel more settled.

While I was DF'd I changed cong. Most all of them knew me there as I was quite well known in the circuit, guess I had one of those admiring personalities. Went there long enough to get re-irated, faded out within 3 months of that, they never called on me to reactivate me better. Then moved 35 miles away where no one knows me. in the year and a half at the new address I've only found one tract in my door. Guess I should be home more often to have an opportunity to tell them" I am not interested".

now i shall post the follow-up.. as i predicted, my mom would come with elders in tow to have a conversation.. actually, she threw me for a loop at first.
no elders with her.. she had them wait a half an hour then she let them in.. thus i couldn't reject the whole lot of them at the door, she was their way in.. secondly, she brought the elders from the nearby hall, not the ones who know me.. the whole time i thought she would go for someone who she knows can dominate my thinking, but instead she went with the unknown.. .

You know of course that the tears on your part ara a plus for your cause, they love to see tears. Indicates remorse on your part, they love remorse. All in all I think it went well on your part. You in effect got into their mindset, you heard the company line and that all is not well in paradise. Believe me, what happened to you today no doubt happened to many others. There is no doubt in my mind that the firemen are on alert and are out trying to put out as many fires as they can. You will though be hearing from them again.Gird yourself for the next bout. i'm leaving one job for another.. actually, seeing all those things was too painful after a while.. what, you think i was leaving jwd?.

Yes they did. They held fast to the to the feelings that they had. One other tid bit. Former Detroit Tigers, Chet Lemon Lou Whittaker attended here in thier early years as Tigers. This was prior to the other 3 sisters partaking. In fact, Lou was studying at the time. I believe that it was Chet's wife, Valerie who was instrumental in getting Lou's wife interested. Something like that. Now, get this.....Val Lemon was a partaker....true
