Those Dubbies and their surprise visits...
by undercover ini don't know which is worse.... dubs that drop by unanounced and want to confront you on your inactivity and your apparent lack of zeal for truth and love of jehovah, thus setting up a potential argument that could get ugly real fast.
dubs that drop by unanounced and feign friendship, chatting away like old times, yet they've got a bible in their hand and they insist putting wt/awake mags in my hand before they leave (like i can't download it for free from the internet) and since they've been friendly enough it would be bad form to jump their shit and antagonize the situation.
knowing they're indoctrinated, i'm sure that they're actually trying to be sincere in their efforts.

members of my family who are inactive (fading) have run into witnesses twice, and both times the witnesses tried to place magazines. is this new? maybe im off, but when i was in, i wouldnt even think of trying to place magazines with a baptised JW, even if they were inactive. thats insulting, imo. maybe its always been that way and i just didnt realize it.

Being honest with yourself, could you have reasonably adjusted your attitude and continued on as a JW?
by miseryloveselders ini ask this question in harmony with deedub's swan song thread which i linked below.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/205902/1/time-to-say-good-bye.
to some degree, i think i understand where she's coming from.
just speaking from my own experiences since stepping into the world of anonymous apostacy, i went through a few different phases of personal outlooks.

I wouldnt agree that we dont have enough informatiom. We have enough information that proves the watchtower is a lying and destructive cult. Now, some people never read through all the information. But many who have could never go back.

Abortion so daughter family doesn't kick her out, her dfed, etc.
by EndofMysteries init's sad that someone is thinking bout that because of fear of being cast out by family.
i don't know this person, but a mutual aquaintence who knows i was a jw told me.
i'm going to try to relay info to help them.

I mean, if you think she wants the baby, but is thinking of aborting it to avoid getting DFd, then yeah, i see no problem talking to her or helping her. however if she feels an abortion is right for her, i dont think anyone has any buisness talking her out of it just because they think abortion is wrong.
I would also say, if a person has just found out they are pregnant and thought long and hard to have an abortion right away, that is WAAAAAY better than waiting and having a late term abortion, etc.
You would hate to have a person who truly wanted an abortion but waited cause people are talking her out of it, to then change her mind and go through with what she was going to do in the first place and have to have a late term one.
im not a fan of abortion, and i would likely not have one, but i dont think you can just take peoples rights away and ban all abotions.
cetainly rules could be made, like you have to make the choice within 30 days of finding out your pregnant, and banning late term abortions, etc. (Of course emerhancy situations should be allowed)
isnt there a way to strike a balance between the one side that says no abortions ever, and the other side that says abortions whenever?
guess not

JRK,
thats not necessary. out of respect for the author I will not comment further. I was not aware that the author wished to not have his identity discussed, and I apologize for what I wrote. I cannot edit the posts, but if the mods want to delete them, that would be great.

What video games were banned when you were a JW teen?
by BlackTwisted ini'm not a jw, but i'm kind of studying to be one though.. now that's out of the way, i remember mortal kombat was banned within my home-my mom isn't too fond of blood in video games..but yet, she plays dinosaur crisis sometimes....but then again, that was when i was 9...lol now that i'm 15 and i wanted mortal kombat 9 (still) my mom stil lsaid no...but then again, she would let me play it online..i dont know why..its strange, but hey, whatever works for her and me i guess.. .
um...lets see..any shooting games, or any games that has blood in it, she wont let me get.
so i can still play fighting games, just not the ones with blood...eh, oh well.i'm surprised she even let me play "dead or alive" and "soul calibur"!

In my old hall a group of young adults used to get together all the time and play halo. Then the elders found out and threatened anyone who played it with the loss of privlages and had a local needs talk on violent video games. so after that they stopped playing halo they played mario cart. well, then the elders did a local needs talk on that, not that it was violent, but that it was a problem that they got together regularly and wasted time playing video games.
so then they stopped playing video games and would just have gatherings on the weekends, and shortly after that the watchtower about social gatherings came out. (not sure if you guys remember, but it was about how there should be very few people and how one brother should be in charge of what you talk about and how you should talk only about spiritual things). so that was pretty much the last straw and they all stopped getting together, and i'd say 75% of that group is out of the religion now.
its odd, when i was younger in the 90's, we used to have social gatherings every single weekend, sometimes on both sat, and sun, and it was praised and looked upon as a very good thing, it helped young ones stay in. it was one of the things that kept me in the religion at a young age, and being honest, i'd enjoyed it and have fond memories of it.
but now, the society doesnt want people even getting together outside of the hall it seems. i never thought that would happen. so now either there is little to no socializing, or there are groups of young ones with the "f it" mentality, and have huge gatherings with drinking. lol.
