What is the average cost to build a new Kingdom Hall
by jworld ini was recently told that the average cost to build a new kingdom hall in the united states rural midwest region was $250,000.
i was shocked to say the least.
i remember when my childhood congregation built a new hall in 1989 for $60,000.

i remember one time a sister was hit by a car walking across the street to get to the kingdom hall. the meeting started while there were ambulances, etc outside like nothing even happened. at first i thought it was an accident not involving any JW's cause everyone acted like nothing happened. Then later when I found out a sister was struck by a car, I was stunned that the meeting went on without skipping a beat.

NY rabbi ascribes earthquake to gay activism
by behemot innew york city's rabbi yehuda levin, who recently blamed the murder of an eight year-old boy on the passage of same-sex marriage, says that yesterday's earthquake expressed god's great disgust with gay activism.
"one of the reasons that god brings earthquakes to the world is because of the transgression of homosexuality.
the talmud states, 'you have shaken your male member in a place where it doesn't belong.

if someone wants to be a nut like this guy and be a rabbi or preist there is nothing we can do about it, but when are we as a society going to no longer tolerate thinking like this from people with the power to make laws? more and more in the back of my mind I feel this idea creeping into my mind that people who think this way should be banned from office. I know he is not in office, but their are policy makers right now who are homophobes, and more importantly the people behind guys like Rick Perry who want to kill gay people and institute a christian theocracy. People like that should be stripped of the ability to hold any kind of office or power in society. now i know that sounds radical, thats why im saying its in the back of my mind, and im not sure if i even agree with myself, but thats what comes in my mind when i read stuff like this. i mean, what is the difference between wanting to lock up and kill gay people and what the nazi's did? the only difference is Hitler actually got into power, there are a bunch of Hitlers out there, they just havent been given power yet. Does that make sense?

Former JW Elder who sexually abused teenager gets only 6 months
by behemot indavid nelson, a former elder at the madison park congregation jehovah's witness church in phoenix, admitted to authorities that he sexually abused a teenage boy on several occasions in the early 1980s.. with a confession from the suspect, it seems like a slam-dunk case but not for the maricopa county attorney's office, which brokered a slap-on-the-wrist plea agreement that nelson signed, the terms of which landed him in county jail for six months.
in addition to the jail time, nelson was sentenced to three years' probation and must register as a sex offender.. when asked for an explanation of the seemingly light sentence, mcao spokesman jerry cobb told new times that among other reasons the victim in the case (whom we'll refer to as kevin) was okay with the plea agreement.that wasn't true.
in fact, after learning nelson had pleaded guilty to two reduced charges not the six class-two felonies on which he was initially indicted kevin tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head just four days after nelson pleaded guilty.. "thirty-one days [kevin] had a tube down his throat [in the hospital following the march 12 suicide attempt].

it wasn't a feeling of rebellion; it was the feeling of love and care i desired.

just like when i read countless stories of child abuse covered up in the watchtower, i realized all these people couldnt be lying. and that actually was similar to my viewpoint change on homosexuality. story after story of gay men and women who knew at a very young age, and much of the stories were not about sex, or wanting to live immorally, but simply a desire like all of us have to been in a loving relationship. it was from that point i realized that being gay is not a choice. so while first and for most the gay JW's who may be confused I most certainly hope are helped by your story, but also the people like myself who were raised as JW's to be anti gay can wake up to the reality that there is nothing wrong with being gay and you should be treated like everyone else.

Earthquake at Bethel...mysterious Bethelite speaks up on significant concerns at world headquarters .
by koolaid-man ini know this post will bring out all those who love to criticise and rebut.
the following information is timely and very plausible.

six screens of the watchtower is the physical manifestation of the "smurfs running through the kingdom hall" story. this is the only comment and only time i will be spending on this thread.

when we knocked down our old hall and built another one it was around 200K, that seemed reasonable, but what got me was the cost they claimed for the turnersville assembly hall in jersey. It was like at least a few million, maybe 6 or 7? I dont remember but it just sounded fishy cause all the labor was volunteer, and alot of the materials were donations. how the hell could it cost that much? that was the first time i started to wonder, cause i rememner we and a ton of halls in the tri state area, filled out these forms provided by the society to promise to donate a certain ammount every month. So after the first 3 assemblys at the new place, they still talked about needing money, and being in the red for the assembly expenses. It just didnt click, free labor, discounted supplies, massive donations from everyone in the tri state area, and its still not paid off? made no sense. now i know, that whole in the red annoucement at the assemblies is a flat out lie.

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses send their mentally ill door to door?
by life is to short inthis has been a question i have asked over and over even when i was a very devout jw.
please do not get me wrong in thinking that i am trying to be mean or cruel or unkind to those who have mental illness, that is not in the least where i am going with this.
what i mean is i think it is cruel to send them door to door, it puts way to much stress on them and it looks bad for the name jehovah.. it seemed that in every hall i have ever been in there were some people who were extremely mentally ill. there have always been some in every hall who were schizophrenics or suffered major depression, or other forms of mental illness.

back in the mid 90s the mentally ill and eldery were basicly given a pass in our hall, and they would even do things to help them like allow them to listen in via phone, or tape record the conventions. for some it was just known that field service wasent an option. and if a person was house bound and truly desired to do field service, they would make arrangements for them to do writing or phone witnessesing.
it was really quite loving, but now its not like that. now even the most sick and mentally ill are expected to do what everyone else does. its sick and crazy. people who are house bound are expected to be at the meetings, and the phone hookup now has passwords that must be obtained in person by only the person who needs it, not by someone on their behalf, and it changes often. people who are ill are expected to go to the convention all 3 days and the first aid is not first aid anymore so people are told to be on their own. even if someone needs an ambulance you first have to go to the first aid and they have to get approval to call 911.
i feel very sorry for the older people and mentally ill, they are treated harshly.
this is further proof for me that while the watchtower has always been a high control group, it has gradually turned into a destructive cult and it becoming more and more like one of the bat shit crazy destructive cults like scientology.

by flipper inas if the other sept. 15th wt thread i started weren't controlling enough - in another study article titled " run ..... that you may attain it " were you aware that just eating and wearing clothes on your body - might be a " stumbling block " to you ?
in a prior article on pg.
12 , paragraph 6 the wt society sets up what they are trying to get across by stating, " people of the world tend to seek personal interests first as " men of this system of things, whose share is this life.

its crazy, back in the 90's when i was heavily in, the bad things in watchtower articles or listed at conventions were murder, fornication, adultery, stealing, lying, etc. now in 2011 the list of bad things includes, food, clothing, shelter, entertainment, jobs, and relaxing.
lol what a crazy cult the watchtower has become. wow

How the Internet saved my life
by AK - Jeff injust a synopsis of this aspect of my story.
i hope others will join in and tell us how this modern marvel of communication affected your exit [or your investigation, or perhaps entrenching] from the organization.. we all have doubts at times.
mine were scattered over almost 5 decades, from the age of four when my mother accepted the religion.

without the internet i would have never woken up. yeah i may have left, but i still would have thought it was true. now i know not only is it not true, but its a full blown cult.
