In Brooklyn at the time there were other sisters I knew there whose husbands had left them. So my experience wasn't a precedent setter. I recall wondering myself what would happen to me, but they never acted as if there was an issue with me staying.

Cold Steel: Bethel's Legal Dept handled the divorce, they worked out an alimony for me without having to go to court for it. They took no action against me, allowed me to stay at Bethel. They kept an eye on me from a distance. Allowed me to stay when I remarried. My ex is now an elder again and is still married to the other Bethelite's wife (or at least was a couple of years ago when I last ran into him).

this week is the super special week of activity with one of our favorite jw celebrities...the circuit overseer!!!.
in last night's talk, he gave sooooo much encouragement...just hearing him made me want to fall to my knees and worship him!
My sister and brother-in-law graduated in that class of Gilead (111 th ). My family and I attended the graduation. We flew out on Sunday evening. My BIL’s parents flew home a day later.
I do recall panicking because I wasn’t sure if my sister was in the city or back at Patterson that day, but once I was able to get through to her, she wasn’t in the city at all—she was at Patterson.
That story is complete B.S. If there was any truth whatsoever to this story I would have heard it that week from my sister.

Well, what a coincidence, I didn't realize you're the OP's wife. I'm happy for you that you have each other and are both on the same page. Good luck to both of you. My husband is also an ex-Witness and it helps that we share a common background. He and I had also experienced and witnessed injustices and he as an elder had gone through many things that caused him to be ashamed of what he was asked to do. He would like to forget that he ever was a Witness, but I am more interested in keeping up with what's happening in their world as most of my family are very actively involved still.

Thanks, it all worked out in the end although it was very difficult at the time. That all happened so many years ago, and it doesn't bother me like it used to when I believed JWs were special. I am now happily married to a wonderful man and I'm very happy to be free of all that male chauvinist nonsense. How about you?

My most disturbing Bethel experience was when my husband hooked up with someone else’s wife and I was not allowed to sit in on the judicial meetings to hear what he had to say or to keep him honest about the nature of our relationship. And then how he wasn’t disfellowshipped, although he never asked me to take him back and clearly told me of his intention to be with her. And how when I spoke with others like Brother Sydlik and one of the brothers in the Service Dept who was a family friend it was implied that I had been frigid in my relationship. And how every Bethel elder seemed to know what had been said by my husband but I could not be privy to it as a sister. All of that (and more) was very disturbing, but in retrospect I’m glad it happened because it helped to nudge me out. Eventually. To use one of their illustrations, I was like a fan that was unplugged; I was still spinning, but more and more slowly until I finally stopped.

1) when confronted with evidence of child molestation, doing the bare legal minimum is not enough morally.
2) a carefully honed and managed reputation can be destroyed literally overnight if immoral actions / inactions are brought to light.
3) no matter how "high up" someone is, he is still accountable for his actions / inactions, and will have to pay consequences for wrong choices.
I definitely thought of the how JWs handle child abuse cases when I read this in my local paper:
"When an institution discovers abuse of a kid, their first reaction was to protect the reputation of the institution and the perpetrator," said John Salveson, former president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
