  Visiting a KH...

  a 'friend' of mine keeps telling me that everything i am reading here on this board is a packload of lies from people who have no respect for god.. he also tells me that if i would just go to the kh for once, that i would see for myself that jws are not the bad people that they are portrayed to be.. while i have my own convictions about this subject, i was curious to know what others' opinions would be on the fruitfullness of taking up this man's offer and going to the kh to see for myself.

  so, what do you think?

  what should i watch out for?

  Ianao,

  if you do attend a KH you would find out that many of the people you'll meet are common folks. They're people struggling with the challenges everyone faces. Depending on your locality, you may or may not find those who're interested in doctrinal/organizational matters. Some (especially some of the older folks) see it as another religion; it's just church with all the attendant 'problems'. But I believe, you may find love, especially amongst the 'common folks'. Some of those in oversight positions will show genuine love.

  ...arrive right at the start time. sit in the back and OBSERVE!

  IMHO, it would be just fair to see things for yourself. Coupled with the things you've learnt from elsewhere, you just might have a somewhat balanced idea of what JWs are.

  (a subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d.).

  this sentence is changed in the bound volume reprint to read "a work that would be completed in our day.

  Amicus,
  someone mentioned something about the Society supporting certain policies in Nazi Germany but couldn't substantiate. It was impossible to swallow. One needs to see hard evidence before accepting or writing to the Society. I am first looking at the option of writing and listening to whatever explanations they may have. If you have references kindly send them to my box...but I've always heard that we were neutral in Germany...

  Ironic. During one of the Watchtower studies last year someone mentioned Ray Franz and called him an apostate. Got on the Net and read about him: the TIME article, the reports as per what happened at Brooklyn, along with those flushed out with him, the methods and all...then I got a few little ideas; that among JWs, discent in thinking is a more serious 'sin' compared to other sins; that you become an apostate once you disagree with official teaching; that there's a little (little!) problem with 1914; then learned about all the other dates, 1874, 1918, 1925, 1975, (and now 2000); then the voting system at the top and a few others. I'm suffering from something similar to a Crisis of Conscience myself.

  "fullness of the Gentiles"

  - romans 11:25. .

  i wonder how many of you having read the 11 chapter of romans, see that the jews have not been rejected of god forever.. seems to me from the above verse that they were blinded to the truth, and that this blindness is temporary ... until the fullness of the gentiles, the gentiles, of course being those who would make up the church class, the bride of christ, the 144,000.. what say ye?.

  Does this imply that when the 144,000 are gathered there would be a mass conversion of natural jews?

  Amicus,
  isn't it dangerous? I'm seeing a JW in field service talking about scriptural truth and honesty and all that and then someone shows that the Society's changed things without notice, as if they never happened...there should be a law about this; at least in the US. I mean, attaching an erratum statement or something; the bound volumes are supposed to be as the magazines were printed...The possible motives for such behaviour scares me...I'm at sea...My thoughts haunt me.

  I would really like to see the original copy of the Watchtower article. It is hard to think anyone would attempt to revise history. Scorpion, please, was there a statement to the effect that there was a change in the wording of that sentence in the bound volume? I've heard this kind of thing before, but since access to the original copies of the magazines is almost impossible, it has not been possible to confirm them. In fact I'm doing a compilation of such alleged attempts at revisionist reprinting, sequel to writing to the Society for an explanation. Does anyone know if it is against the law?

  Platlets...can WTBTS policy be defended?

  the following is something i read on at another site.

  there is no question that the watchtower's blood policy needlessly kills jw children.

  Bulgaria will haunt most JWs. I'm yet to see one who did not assert that Bulgaria was impossible. 'We cannot do that', 'it's impossible'... may be they can't but the lawyers have.

  Logical,

  it seems to me that your poisition is a bit harder than the official position of JWs on the subject of blood. Unless I am mistaken, you would rather that no blodd be taken at all - no albumin, no immunoglobin, no haemophilia factor VIII etc etc...That, if I am correct, would indeed be a 'better' position with regard to current JW teaching, as it would harmonize practice with teaching/ But would it have a scriptural basis?

  That the Mosaic Law, stringent as it was, allows that blooded meat (rather, unbled meat) be sold to gentiles (who are themselves descendants of Noah and thus under Noachian law) and also that an Israelite could eat such meat under certain conditions with the penalty being simple cleansing makes some point... I do not think it is necessary to rehash the arguments of the bloodreview site.
