Feenx - The next time you get a chance to talk with her, you can say: "Even though you managed to get away with the curtains, I still got a huge rod and I can show it to you any time you want me to!"

Deluded Witnesses - View Themselves as Temporary " Alien Residents"
by flipper inwhen we were once jehovah's witnesses , and after we left jehovah's witnesses, this organization controls it's rank and file members to view themselves as " temporary residents" who are waiting for a better world to live in the future , and are told to not put too much faith or stock in this world because it has nothing to offer them .
in this way the watchtower society controls the individual witnesses view of living towards the future, but not for today - in the real world.
ways that the watchtower society does this is as follows .

Flipper - In my opinion, your entire assessment is "spot-on,"that is to say 100% correct. As far as suggestions to remedy the sad situation, I have none and don't believe there really are any. If anyone ever does come up with an efficient and certain way to combat and redress manipulative mind control, I believe he or she will have a very bright future indeed. Unfortunately, I cannot foresee that day coming any time soon. It is very difficult to change people's mindset. It is difficult for people to escape from the all-pervasive psychological and emotional abuse so expertly exerced by the organization. It is indeed a pity.

xrati - I'm sorry but I do not know how to embed anything, which definitely qualifies me as being "computer illiterate." I don't know whether to recommend P.D.Q. Bach to you or not. Perhaps you could locate him on "youtube;" and listen to him, and come to your conclusion as to his merit. As Void-eater stated, P.D.Q. Bach is parody and pastiche, but it is loving, knowledgable, delightful parody and pastiche. The name - P.D.Q. Bach - is itself a spoof. It is customary to refer to Bach's family members using their three initials; and of course "p.d.q." means "pretty damned quick." Since you say that you learned a lot about God listening to baroque music, let me say that P.D.Q. Bach is a little like Monty Python's Life of Brian in musical form, with the proviso that P.D.Q. Bach is much more reverant and tasteful.

First, I want to thank everyone for responding to my recent queries regarding musicians and bands; I enjoyed reading your posts and I really appreciate them. Now, I am wondering if anyone has seen Peter Schickele [P.D.Q.] in concert, or if anyone has any of his c.d.'s. If you appreciate classical baroque music, then I would strongly recommend that you listen to one of his c.d.'s or - better yet- go see him in concert. As anybody who has seen him can attest, Schickele does parodies of baroque music; he does very skillful and humorous parodies of baroque music. But he is also a very knowledgable and talented person in his own right. In order to do a successful parody of something, a person must be very familiar with what it is he/she is trying to parody. In any case, Schickele's appreciation and love for baroque music is evident in his performances. Because he incorporates a good deal of visual and slap-stick comedy into his performances, I would say that it is easier to appreciate him more fully by attending one of his live performances or by watching him on d.v.d. If you want to purchase onee of his c.d.'s or d.v.d.'s, you should probably look for him under his fictious alter ego's name - P.D.Q. Bach. As Schickele explains, P.D.Q. Bach is the twenty-first child of Johann's twenty children. Again, for anyone who likes baroque music, I would highly recommend that you see P.D.Q. Bach [Schickele] in concert or buy one of his c.d.'s.

I don't know about anybody else, but that Google ad has given me the sudden urge to buy a "Snakeskin Cowboys" ringtone right away. Just imagine how much that would really rock to have such a ringtone!!! "Snakeskin cowboys, who the hell you are?..."

Two of my favorite songs by her are "Horses" and "Rock N' Roll N*****." What do you think of Patti Smith? One singer whom she definitely does NOT get along with is Ted Nugent. I guess that their respective political stances are too much opposed. I believe the "Nuge" is too far to the right for Smith's tastes.

Speaking only for myself, this was not an issue in any of the Kingdom Halls with which I was associated. However, I recall reading that this IS an issue in Israel's "Holy Land." It seems that every year, Israeli police have to deal with people - mainly foreign tourists - who "snap" in a psychological sense. They undergo a sort of mental breakdown [or in clinical terms, an "acute psychotic episode"]. These poor souls then have to be institutionalized for their own good. I read that men often believe they are either Jesus Christ or John the Baptist, while women suddenly feel that they are one of the Marys named in the Bible. This is a big problem in cities such as Jerusalem or Bethlehem. It happens routinely; the Israeli cops have to deal with it on a regular basis and may even have a specialized "bureau" to handle cases of foreigners found wandering around and speaking incoherently. The theory for why this happens holds that people who are already pre-disposed to such delusions are overwhelmed when they visit the "Holy Land". They are totally overcome by the historical "weight" - the historical gravitas of these places. The Holy Land is the most holy for the followers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Actually,I think that it would be interesting to study this phenomenon more carefully. although it is a sad phenomenon. It would be interesting to see where these people come from and what religion they adhere to. It would be interesting to see which Bible character they identify with. And in cross-cultural terms, it would be interesting to see if this phenomenon has been observed and documented in other parts of the world deemed to be "sacred ground." For example, would a person claiming to attain "Buddha-hood" in the Lord Buddha's supposed birthplace be considered as divine in some sense, or as suffering from psychopathology?
