One Devastating Bible Passage

i used the following quote from mark 9:38-40 in another thread, but thought it might be worthy to have people comment about it in its own thread: .

"john said to him: "teacher, we saw a certain man expeling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.

but jesus said: "do not try to prevent him, for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name that will quickly be able to revile me, for he that is not against us is for us.

The above emphasis in the scripture is wrongly placed. The words: "for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name" is the crux of that scripture.

The point being that only by God's spirit can such a powerful work be accomplished on the basis of Jesus' name therefore since God's spirit is at work that individual cannot be against Jesus but for him.

There is no contradiction in the scripture..

Yes, I believe Jehovah and Jesus are the same.

In the Hebrew Scriptures Jehovah is not solely portrayed as a warring God. He is also compassionate, patient and loving.

In the Greek Scriptures Jesus is not only compassionate, patient and loving he is also, as portrayed in Revelation, the one who leads armies in executioner fashion.

They are the same just fulfilling different roles at different times. Well, just my 2 cents on the subject.

Religious Extremists Will be the End of Us!

the islamic religious extremists are destroying their people.

just as the christian right in the u.s. is more interested in it's own needs and wants than that of the country itself.

so too the islamic extremists want what they want regardless of the consequences to their country or their people.. ironically, osama the ultimate islamic extremist decided to attack the u.s. at just the moment when a christian right extremist was in power.. if christ's man gets elected maybe christ will decide to strike another country in the middle east and if osama survives maybe allah will decide to attack the u.s. again.

Then it seems that it was her word against his.

Yet, she declined to outrightly accuse him of adultery even though claiming he said what he did. It would seem to me that if a woman declines to falsely accuse adultery her statement as to his lesser sin may be truthful.

You're right that is not a tombstone since it does not rest upon Russell's grave. It does though stand very near to his grave and if not a tombstone I suppose it can be called a pyramid memorial to the man who believed measuring pyramid passages brought him closer to the mind of God.

Ironically, Osama the ultimate Islamic extremist decided to attack the U.S. at just the moment when a Christian right extremist was in power. No fictional book could have come up with a better recipe for disaster. Both men believe they are working for their God. "Allah" struck the U.S., "Christ" struck Afghanistan and Iraq.

If Christ's man gets elected maybe Christ will decide to strike another country in the Middle East and if Osama survives maybe Allah will decide to attack the U.S. again.

Gee, too bad these two gods can't get together and agree to get along.
