Way over the top
by Leprechaun ini cant believe that i remained a jehovahs witness even after i was no longer under the roof of my parents anymore, sometimes when i think about it i could pay someone to kick me right in the ass over and over and over again.
i ever went so far as to raise my daughters as witnesses, please someone bend me over and kick me in the ass again.

Attended a funeral this morning
by man in black ina lady i work with recently lost her husband to brain cancer, she is a very nice person so i made it a point to attend his memorial.
mass at the local evangelical church.. as the service went on, the pastor had asked the man's son, brother, and two sisters to give a little speech about their father, and brother.. it was one of the most emotional things i ever witnessed at a funeral.. .
remember, most of these people are from a different religion, or don't have any belief at all.. the brother gave a very nice talk about growing up together, one sister just stuck to her written script, it was very hard for her to speak in public.. the other sister read a letter that she started when her brother discovered that he had cancer, so her letter covered events for two years.. she started crying several times when something she was reading struck her, yet she was able to laugh, and get the entire church to laugh along with one of her personal observations regarding her brother as he grew up.. the most emotional part was when his 23 year old son got up and read a tribute that he wrote to his dad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

You say: “ It's experiences like this that solidify the fact to me that the JW religion actually suppresses basic human feelings.”
I could not agree with you more conncerning your statement! It always felt like a plastic religion, apparently that is what it feels like to be in a cult where suppression is the name of the game. I read within the bible that Jesus said to console and greave with those bereaved or those who have lost loved ones in death. I was a raised a Witness, and stayed one for most of my life. I lost my twenty six year old daughter five years ago, I knew it would not be from the Witnesses that I would find emotional support of hope for a disfellowshiped daughter. I really did pray so hard that I thought I would die, I went to the mail box and found it crammed full of sympathy cards and hand written letters of condolences from the modern day Bible Students from everywhere; needless to say I am now a Bible Student. I was emailing a Bible Student concerning questions I had prior to her death, thus they became aware of my demise. I have never felt so much fellow feeling before. In Christ,

What the Governing Body really think of themselves
by gubberningbody inthe golden shill.

Like I said in a earlier thread: Jehovah continues to shed new light upon me! The first new light was that the Watchtower Society is full of bullshit, and the governing body is nothing more than a manipulative bunch of SOB’s and demigods.

Science Channel program on "Lost Gospels" - did anyone else see it?
by JWoods ini watched an interesting program last night on science channel called mysteries of the bible - this episode was about the lost gospels.. they include one by peter, another by mary magdelene, and one by judas.
the most interesting part of the show, to me, was how they debunked the notion (shared by the wtbts) that constantine's council was somehow inspired and picked out the correct four gospels by divine means.. the pictured constantine as a practically non-religious person except in the sense that he saw a centrally organized system of christianity as a source of political power for himself.
much was made of how he disliked the independent spirit of the gnostics, and therefore viewed mathew, mark, luke, and john as the least politically dangerous of the numerous gospel writings available in his time.. and, of course, again i was reminded of just how uncertain we really are about the writings preserved in the present-day new testament: they were written at least decades after their events took place, and were the result of verbal traditions told from one person to another.

I enjoy reading the Book of Enoch, I think that it should have been included in our modern bible.

Do Elders and Bethelites really follow this site?
by jamesmahon injust a question really and whilst i would not put it past them i sort of feel it is too 'conspiracy theory' for me.
are elders and bethelites officially sanctioned to lurk (or engage) in this or other sites to try to weedle out apostates?
does anyone have any direct experience of it happening?.

A Theatrical Spectacle
by Leprechaun ini remember studying a watchtower article years ago about being a a theatrical spectacle to the world, i thought to myself this is so high minded and weird.
really, as though everyone is looking at jehovahs witnesses and how they conduct themselves, give me a break; most people are just trying to survive from day to day.

At a loss what to do RE: JW family and my kids
by 2pink ini have 2 small kids, ages 4 and 5 yrs and one on the way (via adoption!).
my husband and i faded/suddenly disappeared last fall, never to go back to meetings.
we outed ourselves and told our super hardcore parents/family members that we didn't believe it anymore, were choosing a different path etc.

“So really my question is the kids...how much contact do we allow these grandparents?” Some states have visitation rules concerning grandparent’s rights, with that being said check that out first, second it is the obligation of any court in the US to protect the welfare of children. Now that you have made it known others and no longer attend continue to appear un-Witness like, I have a sugestion, take you and your family to a simple community church I mention this so that in the event you have to see an attorney you will have leverage, a judge loves to see stability a sense of normalcy in a family (house) where there is children; a community church onnce a week ( you don't have to become a formal member, I find them to be very low key and calm it would go a long way to maintain the emotional aspect of leaveing the Witnesses for your children. "Peace be to you"
