  What makes people kill others over religion? The same thing that makes JW's let children die over blood doctrine.

  my inactive relative, (female) asked in exasperation, "what makes people kill others over religion?

  " i responded, "the same thing that makes jw's let children die over the blood doctrine.

  religious ignorance and fervor causing the death of others without any compunction?

  Exactly.

  Letting your kid die because you think god has forbidden blood transfusions is murder/suicide. Jehovah's Witnesses practice human sacrifice whenever they do this to themselves or to their own children. The Jewish God of War is a bloodthirsty deity and the Bible makes no secret of the fact that he does accept human sacrifice. They do it with the same strong faith that these Jihadis have whenever they kill other people or blow themselves up. These people think they are the good guys because their doctrine has them convince that they have divine permission to commit these atrocities.

  
  

  If you want a normal person to commit hideous atrocities, all it will take is a nice fat dose of religion. When people begin believing that they are permitted certain things because they have divine backing, logic goes right out the window.

  Why do people follow demonstrably False Prophets?

  why does everyone just turn a blind eye to the false teachings of the watchtower?

  the bible warns us many times and in many ways not to follow false prophets - including the lake of fire.

  fundamentally why do the followers of the watchtower just ignore the very bible they claim to live by?.

  The same reason people believe in talking donkeys (Numbers 22:28) and worshipping an ancient jewish god of war that condones slavery, genocide, rape, and human sacrifice. It's demonstrably false yet people cling to it.

  the org certainly agrees that the universe is infinitely large.

  I would ask this a lot back when I was in. The response I got was along the lines of "Yes there is life elsewhere in the universe. We must remember that Jehovah created other spiritual beings before us!"

  Pretty much deflect the question and answer with a strawman like they do with EVERYTHING else that they have no real answer for. Sometimes I would hear the real nutty ones talk about Satan appearing before humanity as UFOs and that if there are aliens, it must obviously be Satan and his demons.

  This was an awesome story. I am currently in that limbo phase where I am shunned by my family even though I have not been disfellowshipped or disassociated yet. I will be sending letters and private messages out to every single person I can find very soon announcing that I am leaving the organization. The one thing that has always bothered me about disassociating is that the rank and file will never now if you left on your own or if you were kicked out. I am gong to let it be known I am leaving.

  Stories like yours are encouraging to read. Thanks for posting it!

  it seems to be a tradition of out going presidents and governors.

  It would be cool if he pardoned Edward Snowden. Guy is a whistleblower and because of him we know more about the extent of the US governments surveillance on citizens.

  don't you think with all the talk about apostate sites, this is having a reverse.

  effect for the rf.

  if i was a jw today i would wonder what are all the lies these people are saying.. and i would try defending their truth on these sites, but in each case those that come here.

  I was pretty loose when it came to checking out apostate stuff back when I was in. I mostly restricted it to youtube comments and videos though. As liberal as I was with that I don't think I would ever have gone out of my way to look for actual "apostate sites." That was too hardcore even for me.

  I don't know about the rest of you here but whenever I want a child to do something I find that fear is the quickest solution.
