Don't just pity the trees--pity the people in those areas "where the need is greater" who know how to read as well.

my heroine, from an historical perspective, is rosa parks.
A woman I really look up to, out of many, is Aphra Behn, who was the first woman in the United Kingdom to earn a living as a writer; she wrote in the late 1600s, before her death in 1689 (or thenabouts), so she faced discrimination and everything that comes with it for being a woman in what was then thought of as a man's domain.
my wife has gone to attend an "assembly" can anyone tell me what goes on at these meetings?.

It's been a while since I was at one of those things--I was 10 years old (I'm 28 going on 29 now)--but I'll try to help you out here.
Assemblies and conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses are essentially extensions of meetings, except with more people, since members from many congregations gather in one place, and they last for at least 2 days. I remember seeing skits, sometimes involving costumes (if stories from Biblical 'history' were being re-enacted), and listening to tape recordings. But the point of assemblies, and conventions, is that of meetings--to keep up the mind control.

I have to agree with JAVA--the truth of the matter is, from the time it was introduced, the no-blood policy has been an act of genocide, and now the higher-ups in the Jehovah's Witnesses/Watchtower Society are trying to clean up the mess they made with this policy without out-and-out admitting the damage they've done through it.
