How many Rumors have you ever started?

yes that delightful word, any story or a statement made without any proof that it is true.

how many of us have actually have started these little rumors?

This is one of a few reasons I so willingly left the WTS. Rumors piss me off. Sure I did partake in discussing more than a few with friends but I never made any up. I was always at the ass end of the rumor mill as my butt was dragged into elders meetings constantly for made up shit. I got the bad attitude label when I refused to answer any of the elders questions as to whether I had a drinking problem because I was 18 and got drunk once *GASP*

Also, I generally called people out on rumors right in front of the rest of the congregation thus embarrassing more than a few people. I bet they are happy I'm gone.

Saintly Sluttiness?

i ran across this this morning at lucianne.com and thought it really had a different perspective than the usual bible-based values in a lot of our world today (that aren't really adhered to anyway).

i highlighted the pertinent parts, imo.

i put it in bible research because it contradicts the bible and is based on evolutionary science.

I would love to join you in this little discussion SS but I've had it sooo many times before. The concepts of sin to me is nothing but a guilt trip. There is also the belief that you need religion is in some way to tell you how to act morally. Oops, I'm draggin myself into it again.

Interesting story Klaus, of course my redeemer is me. I think that while others may be able to judge us it is ultimately how we feel about ourselves that creates our Avalon or Underworld. Noone holds sway over me as I think good and bad are choices. Interesting you bring up Noah. The militant Bible literalist that I spoke of earlier totally believed the story of Noah to be true instead of a morality tale. I asked him how he felt about believing a Pagan Babylonian story; he shut down just like a JW and denied that that was true. Because we all know that there are no Pagan stories in the bible. :rolleyes:

Not sure what they were talking about on TLC SS. The name just struck me for some reason like I'd heard it before. The program did say they built towers in Iran before the Muslims showed up and destroyed them.

By the way, anyone have any info on the Magi that occupied Iran before the Muslims drove them out? I was watching something on TLC that briefly mentioned them but can't find any articles or books pertaining to them.

I prefer a full moon or new moon also but water is the biggest draw for me. I can't stray too far from the Ocean. Deserts are a nice place to visit but the pull of the Ocean is too strong for me. Could be my Norse bloodline since most of my ancesters were fishermen. Although allot of them died in combat so I guess they should have stuck to fishing.

Hey Trauma Hound!! See those morons with the Jesus signs? They run our Government. I wish common sense would outweigh political ass kissing but it doesn't look like that will happen. Hemp has sooo many positive affects for the economy, enviroment, and health. But you get all kinds of idiots making gettin high jokes no one takes it serious. Plus we have to win that war on drugs ;)

I just went to that site you linked JanH. I've only seen this guy once but I put him in the same pot as hoaxers. While some of his work is very interesting I saw him on Larry King Live going toe to toe with a lady who claimed to be psychic. She ripped him a new ass and made him look very stupid. There could be several reasons for it, he was really nervous being on TV, he wasn't prepared, or he just sucks at one on one debates. Either way he did not impress me in the least.

Take a combination of religous contempt and a short attention span and you've got your hoax. On matters of spirituality it is easy to fool people into believing something even if they don't actually believe you. Give them immediate gratification and you've got them hooked, how many lose weight quick diets are out there? As mainstream religions continue to fail at filling that void that many people need filling there will always be a con artist waiting in the wings to fill it. Unfortunately, this generally comes from those claiming to be witches with "special" powers or psychics with"special" powers. It is made even easier by Hollywood who cooks up such crap as the Craft and Sabrina. Really it doesn't take much to jump from reality to fantasy when your desperate, which is why John Edwards is so succesful. Being Wiccan even I get people trying to sell me on ideas that my left brain knows are complete BS. I guess they assume because I accept some of the Pagan teachings I must be gullible.

Anyway, I think as long as organized religion continues to fail people will be more willing to turn to the fantastical.

Patio, I see a few million self rightous militant christians getting red in the face at your last statement. Don't you know that there is no such thing as context when it comes to the Bible? I had a hardcore literalist christian in my speech class that believed everything word for word in the Bible. Believe me logic does not apply to these people. I would almost wish that science could become a religion and more people would embrace it but that would require education and it is so much easier to sit on your ass and have someone to tell you what to believe.
