Alert: Witch hunt begins Watchtower 15 july 2011
by Gorbatchov inreading the posts about the 2011-7-15 watchtower about mentally retarded apostates i foresee the following scenario:.
1. congregational elders trying to get grip on non regular publishers and inactive witnesses.. 2. the good ones read in the watchtower that apostates are to find in the local congregation.
3. inactives like me (i hate this name, but i use their language), and liberal witness like me, will be hunted, .

I cannot be arsed to worry about the cults next moves. They are beyond parody because they are beyond silly.
In my case it's mind over matter, I don't mind 'coz they don't matter.

When I was in, I never felt the Big A was anything to get excited about, my view was that I served God forever, and the big A would just be ahiccup in that service.
I suppose it was being born-in in 1950, and hearing the cry of "Wolf Wolf!!!" for so long, plus I did not relish the idea of the big A as a concept, and believed that a just God would do a proper sifting job so that only the incorrigbly evil would be destroyed.
Today's cult members seem to have a very twisted theology, which ignores the bulk of what the Bible actually says, and basically come over as spiteful, nasty little people.

What do You Like to Drink with Your Sammies?
by White Dove inbeer!.
drinking a smithwick's with my sammie..

I like a lot of real ales, I mean that in both senses, I enjoy drinking a variety of RA's, and I enjoy drinking a huge quantity !
Old Speckled Hen is good, our own Kentish ale of Bishop's Finger is good, actually named after a type of old sign post, but known by the locals as "Nun's Delight".
I find they must be over 5% Alc. to hit the spot.
The wife tells me red wine is better for me, so last night I drank no beer, just two bottles of wine. Tee Hee. Feel real healthy this morning !

I would like your input on this statement found in old "Zion's Day Star" advertisement. Is this true?
by AndersonsInfo in"truth never changes, our views of it may change...".
can this argument be used by religions like watch tower that often change the slant of their doctrinal interpretations to justify the change?.

I am not familiar with Zion's Day Star, was this a Russell publication pre-Watchtower ?
it sounds like Russells pontificating magesterial style, the writer obviously struggles with the fact that he considers the bible to be inerrant truth from God, and when cold hard facts prove his exegesis wrong , he cannot deny the bible, but has to change his errant view.
It does not occur to him that his exegesis may be in error, and the bible too.

great advice jgnat ! shower Mum with the natural love you feel for her, no Mother can fail to warm to that !
I am going to make a start this week, before my 91 year old mum staggers off to the DC on Friday. And I shall continue when she returns, no talk of religion though !
good luck, hang in there !

GREAT BOOK ! May free your JW loved ones.
by wobble ini have just finished reading a great book entitled "believing bullshit" by stephen law, published by prometheus books of n.y. www.prometheusbooks.com.
in it the author outlines how we come to believe total claptrap most often because of the dubious methods used by the promoters of these ideas.. he does not set out to debunk the ideas themselves as the main purpose of the book, though in passing he has to do so with some .like alien abductions, christian science and homeopathy etc.
his main purpose is to expose the methods used to get people to believe,,and how even if the idea being put forward may be good, or a truth, to use such methods is not justified, and leads one open to being sucked in to an intellectual black hole if you are duped by them.. if this book is read by an active, believing jw they will not smell any rats, but by the end of it, if they are honest with themselves they will see the methods used by the wt as totally dishonest and reminiscent of snake-oil salesmen.. it may just free their minds enough.. i cannot praise it too highly, it is a valuable read for anybody, and shows why even college educated, intelligent people can be fooled by bs..

i thought that too Tuesday, I wondered if the American version would have to use asterisks instead of spelling the word ! you know how the Yanks can't say "S**T !" in public.
Just present it as a"jokey" title, and try to get them to read it.
To kick start a JW's brain in to examining their beliefs properly is an almost impossible thing to do, but this book, with no mention of Dubs or much about cults, may just do it.

The Internet: Viewed by the Governing Body and Former JW's.
by AllTimeJeff init's sort of funny how the internet has turned into the bugaboo of the governing body's existence.
imagine the nerve of people masquerading as ip addresses, with no congregation secretary to track back to!.
of course, "apostates/former jw's" have a view of the internet that sometimes isn't all to realistic either.

Thanks ATJeff, good post, I agree that the GB need not screech out their fear of the Internet as shrilly as they do, but it is a different world now than before the web.
I had doubts all my life, but little access to info. that would confirm my worries.
It is so different now, take the example of poster Cantleave, active JW Elder, does a little research on the Net to try to make the Memorial talk less mind and bum numbingly boring, and within a few hours his whole belief system had changed.
The house of cards that is JW/WT doctrine and history tumbled down.
I think the GB fear that many, many more will follow those like Cantleave, I do hope so.

I have read Angie Debo's book about N.A.I's and the disgusting treatment meted out to them by all the invaders and theives of their livlihood, and land. The Wild West was certainly that !
Self identity is not something that troubles me, labels that people wish to attach to me do. For example, I hate to be called a"Brit", I had the temerity to be born in England, so if you must hang a national label on me, I am English.
The word "British" and the epithet "Brit" are associated with too many massacres, murders, and acts of theivery etc. etc. for me to want to be connected in any way.
I don't mind being called an Englishman, after all God is an Englishman.
As to "self-identity", I am who I am, despite my birth or where I live, I feel no great nationalistic pride, but I do all I can for the community, as I would wherever I lived in the world.
