Finding peace

this is for those of you who are familiar with my periodic rants about being married to a jehovah's witness.

you won't be seeing any more of them.. my wife and i were up before dawn on friday and spent the entire day on our boat, trolling 10 miles from shore and talking.

we talked about our lives together, the ground we've covered in the 40 years since we met as university freshmen.

Nickolas ! I am so happy for you, you and your dear wife have done what all the best advisors say, honestly communicated with eachother, and it has turned out so well !

I am sure that as your wife sees the peace that you have, as she continues to enjoy the love you express for her and to her, she will gradually loose the feeling that she needs the WT for anything.

It is hard to lose ones social network, my wife and I were in for 58 years and now we do not see any of those old JW "friends" socially,but we are making many new friends, albeit slowly, and we have not been cut off totally from my family, so life is GOOD !

I wish you and your good lady all the best for a happy and fulfilling future.

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower

i have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.

last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.

one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

Will you stop giving the WT ideas ! If they can entrap youngsters beyond their mid-twnties they often hold on to them.

I agree that here we can be a support to any that leave, of whatever age, and can show them that a great, fun life awaits once you have left the WT.

if there truly is no god/god... what is wrong with the existence of religion?

The above words make no sense to me ,would you please , not only explain, but support with proof what you say ?

I cannot conceive of any harm that we Atheist/Agnostics can do, let alone costs, to anyone, innocent and naive or not.

We simply do not believe in fairys, hob-goblins, Jinns, Daemons or demons or spirits or gods and godesses without proof for them, how can our not believing impact on anyone else ?

I am a non-Golfer, I do not play golf, is this in some way unfair to innocent and naive Golfers ?

What on earth are you saying ?

i picked what i thought were highlights of the article.

harsh words used to describe jehu's actions ... likened to how elders should be in eliminating threats in the congregation and how all should treat the disfellowshipped.. jehu champions pure worship - watchtower 11/15/2011.

Trust the WT to spin what Jehu was really like (based on the O.T)

Jehu was a blood-thirsty political extremist, looking to preserve the people in power that he supported, if you read just a little between the lines, worship of Yahweh was secondary to who held political power.

Having said that, this is typical WT mind-control, whatever draconian measures the Elders implement now to stop the collapse of the WT house of cards will be approved by the Congregation as necessary.

Why this fear of DF'd ones ? Because an awful lot of them know the truth about the Troof. No moral JW is in danger of being influenced into immorality, but there is a danger that once a person is DFd he/she has nothing to lose, so can tell all they know about the falsehood of the WT/JW religion.

Dear Shelby,

The problem with Big Pharma, the Tobacco Industry, the Fast Food people, and religions is that they ALL harm in some way.

It is a false premise to say "We tolerate the drugs/fast food/ciggie industries therefore we should tolerate religions, if not the suicide bomber type, we should tolerate the soup-kitchen do-gooders".

Any religion is pushing falsehoods, purveying a false view of life now, and to come, (who can say, with proof to support, that there will be one ?)

Show me a truly harmless religion, one that does not give a warped world-view, I do not include in this personal faith and how that makes a person live their life, this may indeed be not just harmless, but a positive force for good, as I believe your faith is Shelby, but religions are all harmful in some way.

Include that excellent phrase from the dear , precious Shelby, if your friend is honest she may ask for more information, if she is not honest-hearted she will not contact you again, either way you have been honest and compassionate, qualities the Jw's do not commonly employ.

if god is almighty, would he not have preserve the true church that jesus and the apostles build today?

instead of letting satan and apostates infiltrated the true church,so that its true teaching and the true church perished or was rejected by both jehovah and christ because of apostacy!if the true church survived and is with us today, where do the jehovah s witness organisation stand?.

With the greatest respect to you and your questions and your position, dear Redhair67, you ask Terry, and by inference, others of us who have long been on this board, and long left the blinkered and uneducated world of the WT, to do more research !

As Terry has pointed out, you are starting from a wrong premise. You assume that all you have been told is true, that Jesus and the Apostles established a true church, founded on the teachings of Jesus as found in the N.T

The problem is that there is no solid proof that "Jesus" as presented in the writings of Paul and later the Gospels ever existed.

And as Terry says, the provenance of the Gospels and other writings about Jesus is just non-existent. They are doubtfull tracts written with an agenda, not history, prophecy, or fact.

I respectfully suggest that it is you who needs to do research, and if you can prove your contentions, that Jesus existed, and that he established a true church, then come back and show us the proof.

i was supposed to study his stuff in collage, i let slip to the elders that i was supposed to study him and they went mental.

like i was about to study the devil himself!.

i was told that he inspired the nazis and that he belived that concentration camps were a great idea.

Worth a look I think, I have only read some of his thoughts, and comments on his thoughts by later Philosophers, but he is not to be dismissed by the ignorant bigotry of the totally unread JW's, of that I am sure.

I am in to reading the thoughts of modern Philosphers too, A.C Grayling,Julian Baggini, Onora O'niell,Mary Warnock and other thinkers like Philip Pullman etc.

all have added to my knowledge and re-adjusted my views on life. Good stuff.

What Changed? I Did. You Did. (or, there is a reason Apostates are angry)

(for the purposes of this post, i want to say that being angry, though a real emotion, is not healthy if it continues to fester inside you.

i think anger is reasonable if it helps you to move on from point a to point b. in addition, because of the real issues anger can bring, if you feel that after many years you are still angry over your jw experience, i strongly encourage therapy.

Thanks Jeff for the thread, it is fascinating to look back at the callow youth (not literally, I was 58, but emotionally and educationally) who left the WT in 2008.

When I left the Borg I went through the whole gamut of emotions, but anger was a very small part of it, regret, confusion, fear, desperation to degree, all played their part.

The funny thing is that with the epiphany and the subsequent spiritual journey the anger that I felt against the lying hierarchy of the WT still remains to a great degree, it is the thing that fuels my need to post on here, my only way of getting reparation for the stolen years is to feel that ,in a small way, what I post undermines the work of the evil mind-controlling cult.

I agree that we change, and truth does not, but I think that is a good thing, that we change, as we appreciate more truths we grow, and become better people.

SO, a big YES to your thread title, I changed, you did, and yes, there is a reason Apostates are angry, but like the Murphy's, we are not bitter.
